Vincent Gallagher, a parishioner of the Church of the Nativity in Midland Park who is organizing the “Rosary Rally,” said that about 7,000 such rallies take place throughout the world and coincide with the sixth and last apparition of the Virgin Mary to three shepherd children in Fatima, Portugal on Oct. 13, 1917. “In her apparition, the Blessed Mother requested the daily recitation of the Rosary that there would be peace in the world, not war,” said Gallagher. The Waldwick resident has been organizing World Day of Prayer gatherings in Waldwick for several years and is an active member of the Legion of Mary. He is also chairman of the area’s Right to Life movement. Outdoor rosary rally scheduled Marion Donnelly Linda B. Reilly Lifesaving efforts (continued from page 11) work that day, and wrote a letter to the department, thanking the police officers for their dedication and professionalism. Simon added that their efforts are appreciated and admired. Chief Wanamaker also spoke highly of both officers at last week’s council meeting as he described their lifesaving actions. “I examined the catwalk on Aug. 29,” Wanamaker said in the letter of commendation he presented to both men. “It is approximately 18 inches wide and outside of the bridge structure. There were strong winds at the time of the incident. The bridge spans approximately 100 feet above the river and is approximately 75 feet long. The actions of both officers demonstrated true bravery by putting themselves in danger to help the victim. They are both to be commended for their actions. They are a credit to this department.” Joel Rimler
