Directory tradition continues Producers of the Upper Saddle River Directory, a borough tradition for over 50 years, are seeking advertisers and residents who wish to be included in the 2012 edition. Fornatale presents ‘Story of Woodstock’ Pete Fornatale, legendary New York City disc jockey and author, will bring Woodstock to life on Friday, Oct. 21 at 7:30 p.m. at the Upper Saddle River Library. Fornatale will offer a multimedia presentation that includes rare audio clips and video footage of the festival featuring original interviews with Roger Daltrey, Joan Baez, David Crosby, Richie Havens, Joe Cocker, and dozens of headliners, organizers, and fans. A question and answer session will follow. Refreshments will be served. Registration is required and open to Upper Saddle River cardholders. Out-of-town Bergen County library cardholders will be placed on a waiting list. The library is located at 245 Lake Street in Upper Saddle River. Optometrist to address parent group Dr. Joel Warshowsky, a pediatric behavioral and developmental optometrist, will address the support group for
Ramsey and Saddle River parents of children with special needs on Monday, Oct. 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 55 Wyckoff Avenue in Ramsey. Dr. Warshowsky has over 30 years of experience and is an associate clinical professor at SUNY College of Optometry. He will discuss behavioral optometry and vision therapy and offer holistic solutions for children with visual and subsequent behavioral needs. Vision therapy, a type of physical therapy for the eyes and brain, is a highly effective non-surgical treatment for many common visual problems such as visual inaccuracy, blurred vision, lazy eye, crossed eyes, double vision, convergence, insufficiency eye strain, and associated reading and learning disabilities. Best Stuff Sale set Bergen Highlands United Methodist Church in Upper Saddle River will host its Best Stuff Sale on Saturday, Oct. 15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Items for sale will include housewares, linens, furniture, small appliances, collectibles, jewelry, sporting equipment, electronics, CDS, and DVDs. A bistro will sell coffee, muffins, cookies, and other homemade goodies. In the afternoon, visitors may try a hot dog, Settlers Beans, or a beverage at an outdoor table. Quilt making classes offered Kathleen Davies will offer quilt making classes at the Upper Saddle River Library on Oct. 6 and 20, Nov. 3 and 17, and Dec. 1 and 8 from 7 to 9 p.m. Participants will make a machine-pieced kimono, blocks for a wall hanging, or a lap quilt. Davies, a retired teacher and award-winning quilter, will offer information about selecting and cutting fabrics, constructing the blocks, and assembling the quilt. A list of materials will be supplied at the first class. Participants will need to have access to a sewing machine. The cost is $60 for Upper Saddle River cardholders; and $70 for non-Upper Saddle River cardholders.

Newcomers Club hosts Coffee Social The Saddle River Valley Newcomers Club will host a Coffee Social at the Upper Saddle River Library, 245 Lake Street in Upper Saddle River, on Tuesday, Oct. 4 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The social is open to current and prospective members. The Newcomers Club, a social organization whose purpose is to assist new residents of Saddle River and Upper Saddle River in becoming acquainted with their neighbors and communities, organizes outings and activities throughout the year. Cake demonstration offered Denise K.
