Holiday Observers host Halloween events Allendale children, from preschoolers through eighth graders, are invited to participate in the Allendale Holiday Observers’ Annual Halloween Poster Painting and Contest and the Halloween Parade. The Poster Painting Contest will be held Saturday, Oct. 15 at the Red Barn at Crestwood Lake from 7:30 a.m. to noon. (Rain date: Oct. 22.) All posters will be displayed later that afternoon in Allendale storefronts. Prizes for first, second, and third place posters in all age groups will be awarded at the Halloween Parade on Monday, Oct. 31 at 7 p.m. in the Brookside School Auditorium. Children are invited to parade in costume on Oct. 31 in the auditorium. Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes. Complimentary candy, snacks, drinks and a light meal served by Allendale Eats, and posters will be available for pick up in the school cafeteria. Chamber plans meeting The Allendale Chamber of Commerce will host a lunch meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at The Allendale Community for Mature Living, 85 Harreton Road. Fell House Friends welcome new members The Friends of the Fell House will meet on Oct. 4 at 7:30 p.m. at the historic home at 475 Franklin Turnpike. On the agenda will be a discussion of volunteer opportunities and recruitment plans. Events and programs will be presented and light refreshments will be served.

Newcomers plan events The Allendale Newcomers Club will host a Kids Day Out event: a pumpkin picking/hayride on Oct. 5 at 3:15 p.m. at Abma’s Farm in Wyckoff. Doughnuts and cider will be served. Banner signs, the temporary signs that are installed on the borough’s streetscape lights in the business district, will be limited to 42 inches in length and 18 inches in width. Banners must be made from cloth or synthetic material (not plastic). No more than one of each organization’s banner will be permitted on a pole at any given time. Reflective lettering, illumination, and sponsorship ads are not permitted on any banners. Banners must be removed when the event is complete, or no later than 30 days after the banner installation, whichever occurs first. Any signs that interfere with traffic control signs or signals or adversely affect traffic safety are not permitted.
