November 30, 2011 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 19 Allendale Notebook Toys for Tots requested Area residents who wish to participate in this year’s U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots collection may drop off new, unwrapped toys at the rear of the U.S. military truck located at the front of the Allendale Fire Department and Armor Works at 1 Erie Plaza, Allendale. The site is located across from the train station. Toys will be picked up and stored inside every night. Donations may be dropped off at any time from now until Dec. 19. The toys collected through this effort will be distributed as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community. Stoppard comedy comes to Highlands The Northern Highlands Theater Company’s fall production will be “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead,” an absurd comedy by Tom Stoppard. The play focuses on the exploits of two minor characters from Shakespeare’s “Hamlet,” the courtiers Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. The action of Stoppard’s play takes place mainly in the wings of “Hamlet.” “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead” will be performed in Hopkins Hall at Northern Highlands Regional High School, 298 Hillside Avenue in Allendale, Dec. 1, 2, and 3 at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the door for $10 for adults and $5 for students. Senior citizens will be admitted free of charge. Craft workshop comes to Calvary Calvary Lutheran Church & Christian Nursery School, located at 165 West Crescent Avenue in Allendale, will hold an Advent Craft Workshop on Dec. 4 from 3 to 5 p.m. The general public is invited to this family event. No reservations are needed. Volunteers will offer many crafts projects from which to choose, and there will be Christmas music, refreshments, and a host of activities. Participants should bring coins for each craft, which range from 75 cents to $1 each. Participants are also asked to bring a non-perishable food item to be contributed to the Center for Food Action. The event is scheduled for Dec. 3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Dec. 4 from noon to 4 p.m. The John Fell House, located at 475 Franklin Turnpike, Allendale, will be beautifully decorated for the holidays with glowing Christmas trees, decorated mantels, and a cozy story area. This year, showcase rooms have been designed by Karen Weidner, A.S.I.D. of Weidner Design; and Diana Andrio- Raising awareness tis and Dominick Peluso of Theodora’s Gracious Gift and Design. Kids With a Voice Vocal Company will perform holiday songs at noon on Saturday. Allendale Mayor Vince Barra and long-time Allendale resident Stiles Thomas will read “’Twas the Night Before Christmas” at designated hours. Children will enjoy visiting Candy Cane Lane, sponsored by Z+Architects, and the kitchen will be staged for the holidays. Crafts, baked goods, and gift baskets will be available for purchase. The suggested donation is $8 per adult and $5 for senior citizens. Children under the age of five will be admitted free of charge. Christmas comes to Highlands Presbyterian Highlands Presbyterian Church in Allendale will be celebrating the Advent Season with several special events. On Sunday, Dec. 4, an Advent Lunch and Sing-Along will follow the 10 a.m. worship service. The annual Christmas Pageant will be held on Sunday, Dec. 18 during the 10 a.m. worship service. There will be two Christmas Eve services on Dec. 24. The Children’s Service will be held at 4:30 p.m. and the The Allendale Woman’s Club recently made a donation to the Turn the Towns Teal organization in support of their efforts to raise awareness of the symptoms of ovarian cancer. The funds were part of the monies raised by the Linda Fleischauer Walk which was held in September.
