Chamber to hold dinner meeting, elections The Allendale Chamber of Commerce will host a Dec. 6 dinner meeting at the Allendale Bar and Grill, 67 West Allendale Avenue, at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will include elections for next year’s officers. Fyke plans Christmas Bird Count Fyke Nature Association will host its 60th Christmas Bird Count on Dec. 17. The event will cover a 15-mile diameter circle centered on Lake Erskine. At least eight teams will be in the field from dawn to dusk. The count is part of the nation-wide 112th Christmas Bird Count organized by the National Audubon Society. On Nov. 25, the association will hold its annual Members Night at 8 p.m. at the Allendale Municipal Building, 500 West Crescent Avenue in Allendale. Club releases schedule of events The Allendale Woman’s Club will host a Holiday Breakfast on Saturday, Dec 3 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Brookside School cafeteria, 100 Brookside Avenue in Allendale. This annual event, which is open to all ages and religious affiliations, will include a full breakfast supplied by Allendale Eats, Bernie’s Bagels and Dunkin Donuts. Participants will also enjoy live entertainment, crafts, activities, and a visit from Santa. During the event, the winners of the club’s Snowman Drawing Contest will be announced. Children are invited
to submit a drawing and coloring of a snowman on an 8.5 by 11 inch sheet of paper or smaller to the Hillside School front office at 89 Hillside Avenue, Allendale by Nov. 30. Submissions will be judged on uniqueness and creativity. Breakfast attendees are requested to bring a new, unwrapped toy for at-risk children ages newborn to 12 years old to be distributed by Oasis in Paterson for the club’s toy drive. Tickets are $5 per person or $20 per family and are available at the door. The family package includes immediate family members only. Clothes Line sets holiday schedule The Archer United Methodist Church’s Clothes Line Thrift Shop will offer Christmas decorations and gift ideas on Friday, Dec. 2. The shop is located at 37 East Allendale Avenue in Allendale. Hours are Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The shop will also be open Saturdays, Nov. 19, and Dec. 3, 10, and 17 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Thrift Shop will be closed the week of Thanksgiving and from Dec. 19 through 31. The shop will reopen on Jan. 5, 2012. Gently used clothing and household items may be dropped off during regular shop hours. Leaf collection schedule announced The Allendale Department of Public Works has announced its fall leaf pickup schedule. Bagged leaves will be picked up on streets east of the railroad tracks Nov. 28 to Dec. 2, and Dec. 12 to 16. The schedule for streets west of the railroad tracks will be Nov. 28 to Dec. 2, and Dec. 12 to 16. Residents are reminded that all leaves must be left at the curbside for collection in brown biodegradable paper bags only. There will be a limited number of paper bags (10 per customer) available at the recycling center. The recycling center is open Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m. Please note that the week of Nov. 21 is shorter due to the holidays. Fell House opens doors to community

The community is invited to join the Friends of the Fell House for the Second Annual Holiday Open House on Saturday, Dec. 3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sunday, Dec. 4 from noon to 4 p.m. The historic John Fell House, located at 475 Franklin Turnpike in Allendale, will be beautifully decorated for the holidays. Guests will enjoy glowing Christmas trees, decorated mantels, and a cozy story area. This year, the house will feature showcase rooms designed by Karen Weidner, A.S.I.D. of Weidner Design, and Diana Andriotis and Dominick Peluso of Theodora’s Gracious Gift & Design. Kids With A Voice Vocal Company will perform holiday songs at noon on Saturday. Allendale Mayor Vince Barra and long-time Allendale resident Stiles Thomas, will read “’Twas the Night before Christmas” at designated hours. Children will enjoy visiting Candy Cane Lane, sponsored by Z+Architects, and the Fell House kitchen will be staged for the holidays. Crafts, baked goods, and gift baskets will be available for purchase. There is a suggested donation of $8 per adult and $5 for senior citizens. Children under five will be admitted free.
