Third grade students support Go 4 the Goal effort
of the young fundraisers, thanked the girls for making a positive impact. She invited all three to step up to the dais and be greeted and thanked by the board members, Superintendent Deborah Ferrara, and Business Administrator Thomas Lambe. Dr. Eckert explained that the girls approached her with the fundraising concept as part of their exploration of the value of compassion. The girls conducted the research, presented the concept to Dr. Eckert, and promoted and carried out the fundraiser, which netted 4,862 plastic bottle caps. The girls received $106.75 for the caps, and quickly used the funds to support
an organization that has a special meaning in Ho-Ho-Kus. Go 4 the Goal Foundation, known informally as G4G, is a non-profit corporation that was founded in 2006 by Dr. Richard and Beth Stefanacci, whose son, Richard, was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma. Richard, for whom the Ho-Ho-Kus-based Richard’s Run fundraiser was named, is the nephew of school trustee John Buffa and his wife, Gina. According to the G4G website, the Stefanaccis established the non-profit when they realized that many families do not have the (continued on page 19)

by Jennifer Crusco Three third graders from the Ho-HoKus Public School recently conducted a bottle cap fundraiser and donated $107 in proceeds to Gina Buffa of the Go 4 the Goal Foundation. Meg, Vivian, and Annie spoke briefly at last week’s Ho-Ho-Kus Board of Education meeting before presenting the
check to Buffa. Principal Dr. Alexis Eckert reported that the trio will receive the Ho-Ho-Kus Star Award when the school works on the concept of generosity. “This proves we can make a difference one student at a time,” Dr. Eckert said.
