Warriors win Group 1 soccer state semifinals
Waldwick High School’s Boys’ Soccer Team advanced to the Group 1 state finals last week with a 1-0 win in double overtime over Glen Ridge. The Waldwick team last won the state title in 1995. The Warriors were to try for their second state championship against Haddon Township on Sunday. It will be their third state championship game, and the first for head coach Jon Noschese. . High School that led the Warriors to the finals was a cliffhanger scoreless game tied at four penalty kicks. Glen Ridge’s next shot ricocheted off the crossbar and sealed the victory for the Warriors. In all goalkeeper Zach Neugebauer had 12 saves, including one on a breakaway. Team Captain Tokio Nakamoto scored two goals in the shootout. The Warriors had finished the season 18-5-1.
