Library board to meet The Worth-Pinkham Memorial Library Board of Trustees will meet on Monday, Nov. 21 at the library located at 91 Warren Avenue, Ho-Ho-Kus. The meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. Library news The Worth Pinkham Memorial Library in Ho-Ho-Kus has announced patrons may now download books to their Kindle from home via www.beateaudio.org. Valid library cards are required. All instructions are on the website. The library has a number of language CDs, DVDs, and flash drives for patrons who wish to learn a new language. Programs for adults are available in English, French, Spanish, German, Japanese, Latin, Chinese, and Italian. For children, there are programs in English, Korean, Japanese, Italian, German, Spanish, and French. The Muzzy BBC language DVDs for children are available in Spanish, ESL, German, French, Chinese, and Italian. The library also has Muzzy Interactive Language, Games and Exercises on CD, in Spanish and French. Children may also borrow “Speak Spanish with Dora and Diego.” Soon to be available for borrowing will be “Shmoop,” a computer-based tutorial for the SAT, PSAT, ACT, or AP exams. Barone to perform concert Classical guitarist and Ho-Ho-Kus resident Brian Barone will perform a concert on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 7:30 p.m. at The Community Church of Ho-Ho-Kus, 400 Warren Avenue. The concert is Barone’s expression of appreciation to the church for its service to the community, including its sponsorship of Boy Scout Troop 54. Barone personally benefitted from this sponsorship when he earned his Eagle Scout Award as a member of Troop 54. Barone attended the Ho-Ho-Kus Public School, and graduated from the Bergen County Academies School of Performing Arts-Music and the Peabody Conservatory of
Music. He holds a degree in music/classical guitar from Johns Hopkins. A free will offering will be taken to benefit the Community Church of Ho-Ho-Kus. Breakfast with Santa set The Contemporary Club of Ho-Ho-Kus will host its annual Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 10 a.m. in the Ho-Ho-Kus School’s multi-purpose room. The school is located on Lloyd Road. Children are invited to visit with Santa, enjoy breakfast, and participate in holiday activities. Participants are asked to bring a non-perishable food items for the Giving Tree. Tickets are $10 per person and may be purchased by contacting Caren at caren.vangeyzel@gmail.com. Club to host Cabaret Night The Ho-Ho-Kus Woman’s Club will host a Cabaret Night on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 6:15 p.m. at Saint Bartholomew’s Church, 70 Sheridan Avenue. The event will include entertainment by Ronny Whyte, who produces and hosts a weekly jazz concert series, Midtown Jazz at Midday, in Manhattan. The cost to attend is $20. Proceeds will benefit local charities and the club’s scholarship fund. Club members are currently busy stuffing Christmas stockings for military men and women serving overseas. This project is an effort of the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs. Council meeting dates announced The Ho-Ho-Kus Borough Council has decided to hold combination work and public sessions during the months of November and December. The November work/public session will be Nov. 22. The December work/public session will be Dec. 20. Council meetings are held at 8 p.m. at borough hall, 333 Warren Avenue, Ho-Ho-Kus. Harvest Sunday Food Drive set Saint Bartholomew’s Church will hold its Harvest
Sunday Thanksgiving Food Drive on Nov. 20. The collection will be taken to the Ramapough Mountain Indians in Mahwah and other families in need. Donations of food may be brought the church on Saturday, Nov. 19. Anyone who wishes to purchase a gift certificate may leave it at the church office or mail to: Saint Bartholomew’s Church, 70 Sheridan Avenue, Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ 07423. Register for recreation basketball Ho-Ho-Kus/Saddle River Recreational Basketball is holding online registration for boys and girls in grades one through eight. Registration for those in grades three through eight will be open through Nov. 27. Please note that a $25 late fee will be added after Nov. 20. Registration for those in grades one and two will be accepted through Dec. 31, after which time a $25 late fee will be imposed. The fee for children in grades three through eight is $100. The cost is $80 for children in grades one and two. There is a maximum fee of $210 per family. The program will run December through March with Saturday games for students in grades three and four. Grades five through eight will play weeknight and Saturday games. Children in grades one and two will play from January through March on Sunday afternoons at Wandell School, 97 East Allendale Road in Saddle River. Mail-in registration will not be accepted. The program is open to Ho-Ho-Kus and Saddle River residents. Police offer announcements via Twitter The Ho-Ho-Kus Police Department is now featuring special announcements that will be available to the public via Twitter. The link to Twitter may be found on the department’s website, www.ho-ho-kuspolice.com. Messages will cover various non-emergency situations, such as road closings and delayed school openings. Emergency information and other situations that affect the community will still be disseminated via Reverse 911.
