Book groups announce meetings Author Alison Larkin will join the Coffee Talk Book Group on Nov. 17 at 10:30 a.m. to discuss her novel, “The English American.” Coffee Talk meets the second Thursday of the month at the Upper Saddle River Library, 245 Lake Street. In December, the group will discuss “The Human Stain” by Philip Roth. Copies of the books are available at the circulation desk. Free rabies clinic available The Upper Saddle River Board of Health and Northwest Bergen Regional Health Commission will hold its annual free rabies clinic on Monday, Nov. 21 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Upper Saddle River Fire House at 375 West Saddle River Road. Dogs on leashes are welcome from 6 to 7 p.m. (No retractable leashes, please.) Cats in carriers are welcome from 7 to 7:30 p.m. Pets of residents from other municipalities are welcome to attend. Register for recreation basketball Ho-Ho-Kus/Saddle River Recreational Basketball is holding online registration for boys and girls in grades one through eight. Registration for those in grades three through eight will be open through Nov. 27. Please note that a $25 late fee will be added after Nov. 20. Registration for those in grades one and two will be accepted through Dec. 31, after which time a $25 late fee will be imposed. The fee for children in grades three through eight is $100. The cost is $80 for children in grades one and two. There is a maximum fee of $210 per family. The program is open to Ho-Ho-Kus and Saddle River residents. ‘Revolutionary Tea’ offered History on the Hoof will present “Revolutionary Tea: An Entertaining Presentation of a Historical Theme” on Nov. 29. Learn why tea was so important in the lives of 18th century people that fashion-conscious families posed for portraits with their tea sets. Discover whether Great Britain lost its American Colonies over “the cup that cheers.” Find out in this unusual costumed presentation of tea lore, history, songs, poetry, living history display and demonstration, which will be held at 3:30 p.m. at the Upper Saddle River Library, 245 Lake Street in Upper Saddle River. Rotary sets Thanksgiving Pie Sale The Allendale/Saddle River Rotary Club is holding its Thanksgiving Pie Sale, which will feature pies from Di Piero’s in Woodcliff Lake. Pre-order pies now for pickup on Nov. 21 or 22 in Allendale. Filling choices include pumpkin, apple, peach, blueberry, mince, coconut custard, and pecan. Crust choices include traditional or crumb. Pies are $10 for the small size, and $13 for the large size. Benefit organizers seek support The Saddle River Valley Junior Woman’s Club is seeking donations and sponsors for its wine pairing dinner and special auction fundraising event on Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. at Seasons in Washington Township. The high-profile event features Dan Amatuzzi, wine director of Eataly in New York City and private wine consultant, who will offer tips on unique wine and food pairing. The evening will include a cocktail hour, premium open bar, a four-course dinner with paired wines and an auction. In addition to sponsorships, advertising opportunities are available. The six openings will be offered by Dec. 21. The current tuition is $3,750; the 2012-13 tuition will be determined by June. To be eligible, a general education student must be four years old on or before Oct. 1, 2012. A birth certificate, copy of immunizations, and four proofs of residency will be required. The closing date for all applications is Nov. 30, 2011.
