Page 14 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • November 16, 2011 Waldwick Watch Girl Scouts host winter celebration The Waldwick Girl Scouts will host the Annual Holiday Celebration on Friday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. on the lawn of the Waldwick Public Library, 19 East Prospect Street in Waldwick. All families are welcome to join the festivities, which will include music and refreshments. Attendees are asked to bring a non-perishable food item to be donated to the Center for Food Action. Free rabies clinic offered The Waldwick Board of Health and Northwest Bergen Regional Health Commission will be holding its annual free rabies inoculation clinic on Thursday, Nov. 17 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The clinic will take place at the Department of Public Works building, 19 Industrial Park. Dogs on leashes are welcome from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. (Retractable leashes are not recommended.) Cats in carriers are welcome from 7:30 to 8 p.m. Pets of residents from other municipalities are welcome to attend. Italian Club presents genealogist The Italian American Social Club of Waldwick will present professional genealogist, Daniel Donatacci, on Tuesday, Nov. 15 at 7:30 p.m. The event will be held at the Waldwick Ambulance Corps Building at 20 Whites Lane. Donatacci, a specialist in Italian genealogy and U.S. research in the tri-state area, will discuss Italian immigration to the U.S., and will provide an introduction to genealogical research for Americans of Italian descent. A handout packet containing notes from the presentation will be provided. This program is suitable for all ages. Attendees are invited to bring an ancestral family photo in an easel frame for the ancestral exhibit to share at the social that will follow the talk. Emergency brush & branch pickup announced The Borough of Waldwick has announced the suspension of its leaf pickup schedule, and the pickup program for white metal and bagged leaves, to clean the branches and debris from the recent snowstorm. The department of public works will make one pass for debris per district. The borough requests residents keep the streets clear of cars when the DPW is in their area. Classic Film Series features war stories Waldwick Public Library hosts screenings of classic films on Thursdays at 2 p.m. A brief introduction, setting the film in its historical context, precedes each screening. The theme for the month of November is “War Stories,” and the schedule will include: Nov. 17, “The Search” (1948). Classic film screenings are free and open to the public. Flu vaccine still available The Waldwick Health Department still has a limited amount of flu vaccines available. Anyone interested in receiving the vaccine may contact Public Health Nurse Carol Shepard at (201) 444-3914 for an appointment. Individuals must be at least 18 years of age to receive a flu vaccine. Residents must bring their Medicare Part B card in order to receive the vaccine at no cost. The Waldwick Health Department, through a contract with Northwest Bergen Regional Health Commission, will directly bill Medicare. A $25 fee will be charged to those who do not have Medicare Part B. Anyone who has a Medicare HMO, also known as Medi- care Advantage, may choose to go to his or her primary care provider or pay $25 for a flu vaccination. Medicare HMOs will not be accepted at the flu program. Holiday cake and pie fundraiser set The Friends of the Waldwick Library will again be offering gourmet cakes and pies for the holidays. The cakes and pies, provided by Carousel Cakes Bakery, are available at discount prices. These specialty desserts retail for $40 in gourmet shops, but can be ordered through the Waldwick Library at $15 per pie and $17 per cake. Black and white mousse, carrot, New York blackout, New York cheese, and mousse supreme are among the cake offerings. Pie selections include coconut custard, Toll House, pumpkin, pumpkin cheese, pecan, and a variety of fruit pies. Order forms, a catalogue of desserts, and other details are available at the library circulation desk. The deadline for placing orders for Christmas is noon on Saturday, Dec. 10 for Dec. 22 pickup.
