Gordon, Morgan get badges in recognition of service
by John Koster The Allendale Police Department, with the approval of the mayor and council, bestowed official badges on Police Matron Gwen Gordon and Police Matron Linda Morgan signifying the police department’s acceptance of their posts and gratitude for their services. Allendale Police Chief George Scherb, Police Sergeant Todd Giffith, and Police Sergeant Joseph Carey handed the customdesigned badges to Gordon and Morgan. The Allendale police officers kicked in their own money to pay for the badges. Police matrons are legally required to deal with female prisoners and to handle other matters where a female presence is necessary or appropriate. Mayor Vince Barra and members of the Allendale Borough Council also spoke in approval of the service of the two matrons. Morgan is a registered nurse who served as a school nurse in Allendale for a number of years, and served 21 years as a school crossing guard. Gordon has worked in Allendale’s municipal administration for 10 years in a number of office positions, and is currently listed as the construction clerk.
