Upper Saddle River November 2, 2011 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 7 Upper Saddle River’s registered voters will have a choice for mayor on Nov. 8, when USR Council President Joanne Minichetti, a Republican, will be vying for the seat against Independent Marshall Grupp. Voters will also decide on the establishment of a trust fund that would cover the purchase of properties for preservation, recreation, and conservation; and will endorse incumbent GOP Councilman Roger DeBerardine and GOP newcomer Steven DeMartino, who is running for Minichetti’s council seat. Grupp moved to Upper Saddle River in 1995. He is a partner in Sound Lounge, the largest audio post-production facility in New York. Since moving to the borough, he has volunteered for several local programs. He has been a member of the USR Recreation Committee for eight years, and is the creator of the Thanksgiving Trot, which is now known as the Dick Meighan 5K Run. He has coached a girls’ travel basketball team for three years, although he has no child on the team, and has been president of the USR Basketball Association for the past six years. Grupp is the founder of the Mike Blake Tip-Off Classic basketball tournament. He also initiated the Youth Election features contest for mayor’s seat Triathlon for children ages eight through 14, which has been held annually since 2003. Grupp is also consultant for the USR Women’s Biathlon. Minichetti was named to the council in 2007. She is a planning board member and served as liaison to the zoning board and to the Historic Preservation Commission. She writes the borough bulletin, and contributes to the municipal website. She is also a Green Team member and representative to the library board. Minichetti has served as president of the board of health, and was a member of the Northwest Bergen Regional Health Commission. She served as co-chair of the USR Vision 2020 Committee, which helped develop a 15-year plan for the borough based on a survey of residents. She is one of three co-founders of the Upper Saddle River Educational Foundation, and has served as presided of the PTO. She has been a Girl Scout leader for 20 years. DeBerardine was originally appointed to the council to fill an unexpired term and was later elected in 2008. He is an attorney with a Brooklyn-based private practice, DeBerardine & DeBerardine, which he operates with his daughter Elaine. He is also an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association. The candidate has served as a member of the planning board, liaison to the zoning board, and liaison to the board of education. He has also been involved in the police (continued on page 18)
