VFW hosts Coins for a Cause Area residents are encouraged to donate their spare coins to Washington Elm VFW Post 192 (Ho-Ho-Kus/Ridgewood) by participating in Coins for a Cause on Nov. 12. Participants should visit Boiling Springs Savings Bank, 531 North Maple Avenue in Ridgewood, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Those who use Boiling Springs’ free coin counting machine and donate their coins will support Post 192’s mission. One hundred percent of the coins donated will benefit Post 192. The VFW welcomes citizens of the United States who have been honorably discharged from the armed forces and who have served, or are on active duty, in a combat zone, received imminent danger pay, or received special pay for duty subject to hostile fire. The VFW seeks to preserve and strengthen camaraderie among its members. The organization assists worthy comrades, perpetuates the memory and history of the dead, and assists their widows and orphans. Reminder of new polling location Residents in election District 2 in HoHo-Kus are reminded that their polling location has been changed. On Nov. 8, voters District 2, which is east of Route 17, must report to Ho-Ho-Kus Borough Hall at 333 Warren Avenue and cast their ballots in the ambulance corps room on the second floor. Voters in District 2 previously cast their ballots at the Ho-Ho-Kus Public School. Auxiliary hosts Annual Luncheon The Ho-Ho-Kus Branch of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary will host its first Autumn Membership Luncheon on Tuesday, Nov. 8 at noon. The event will be held at the HoHo-Kus Inn and Tavern. Anne Miller of The Little Flower Shoppe in Ridgewood will demonstrate seasonal decorating ideas. The cost is $30 all-inclusive with a cash bar additional. The luncheon is open to all members of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary branches, and interested members of the public. The Ho-Ho-Kus Branch of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary is dedicated to the support of Valley Hospital, and last year contributed $8,000, quadruple its regular annual pledge of $2,000, to the Valley Center for Women’s Heart Health. This year’s $2,000 pledge is dedicated to the Valley Hospital’s Maternal Fetal Medicine and Maternal Child Health Program. The Annual Membership Luncheon is not a fundraiser. Council meeting dates announced The Ho-Ho-Kus Borough Council has decided to hold combination work and public sessions during the months of November and December. The November work/public session will be Nov. 22. The December work/public session will be Dec. 20. Council meetings are at 8 p.m. at borough hall, 333 Warren Avenue, Ho-Ho-Kus.
Community celebrates opening of Mayer Building

The community gathered last week to celebrate the Grand Opening of the new Mayer Building at 611 North Maple Avenue in Ho-Ho-Kus. The building is named in honor of long-time Ho-Ho-Kus resident Dr. Mayer Mechanic. The event featured a ribbon-cutting,
live music, free food samples, and tours of the building. The property where the Mayer Building now stands has been in the Mechanic family since the 1950s. Dr. Mechanic’s widow, Bernadine, was on hand as were Ho-Ho-Kus Mayor Thomas (continued on page 18)
