May 25, 2011 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 5 Allendale Crestwood to open May 28; operation in the black by John Koster Allendale’s Crestwood Lake is back in the black in financial terms and will open this year on May 28 as online registrations continue to pour in, making life simpler for the staff. “We always ask people to register by computer and pay by credit card, and we expected a response of about 50 percent, but we got a 90 percent response, which is excellent,” said Amy Wilczynski, the council member most directly involved with the swimming and picnic area. Councilwoman Wilcyznski said that after some years, The Highlands Hockey Association is offering free learn to skate and beginner hockey clinics on Saturdays through June 4 from 8 to 9 a.m. at Sport-O-Rama Ice Rink, 20 College Road, Monsey, New York. Free rental skates, helmets, and hockey sticks will be available. Attendees will learn to skate or improve their skating skills and learn basic Free skate, hockey clinics offered hockey techniques. All clinics are supervised and training is provided by Highlands Hockey Association coaches and Northern Highlands JV/Varsity players. She said she expected Crestwood to turn a profit again this year, though registration is ongoing and the numbers are not all in yet. The lake’s opening schedule after May 28 will feature hours from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. with hours from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. during the weekends and on holidays. A more expansive lake day will begin during summer vacation. The fee for a single member from Allendale is $165 per summer, and $265 a single non-resident. The difference for two members is $220 for residents and $305 for non-residents. The maximum for an Allendale family is $350, and the maximum for a non-resident family is $525. Seniors pay $60, regardless of residence. While single Allendale teens may purchase memberships for $100 each, membership for non-resident teens (without their families) is not available. Guest books are $90 and include 10 passes. Controversy over whether to allow guest registration for families from outside Allendale punctuated a lengthy council meeting a few years ago, but economics suggest that opening Crestwood to people from outside Allendale was a practical necessity.
