Pattman will be lieutenant, Bodart lead detective
by Jennifer Crusco Michael Pattman, who is currently the Ho-Ho-Kus Police Department’s detective sergeant, will be sworn in to the lieutenant’s post at the May 24 public council session. Pattman will succeed John Wanamaker, who was the department’s lieutenant before being named captain in May 2010. Wanamaker has since become the department’s chief. The new lieutenant grew up in Ho-Ho-Kus, graduated from Midland Park High School, and received a degree in criminal justice from Bergen Community College. He was the police department’s detective for many years, and has received several commendations for apprehensions and for closing burglary cases. Pattman also received the Life Saving Award for his role in handling a recent hostage situation on Hollywood Avenue. “There was never a doubt who I wanted as my secondin-command,” Chief Wanamaker said of Pattman’s impending promotion. “Once I was made chief, my focus turned to getting Michael promoted to second-in-command. He has worked many years, long and hard. He has the respect of the men, my respect, and the respect of the citizens of Ho-Ho-Kus. He has excellent leadership qualities and has a very good rapport with the men, which is very important for a second-in-command.” Pattman was hired as a police dispatcher in 1984. Three years later, he was sworn in as a patrolman. He became a detective in 1998, and was promoted to sergeant in 2001, at which time he was assigned as detective and juvenile officer. Pattman is a member of the Joint Terrorism Task Force. He resides in Midland Park with his wife Karen and their children, Allison, Eric, and Sean. “I am grateful for the opportunity to help Chief Wanamaker lead the department,” Pattman said. “We have a great group of caring, professional officers. Ho-Ho-Kus is a wonderful community to work in.” The new lieutenant has followed in the footsteps of his father, the late John “Jack” Pattman, who was a Ho-Ho-Kus police officer and chief of police until his retirement in 1992. Jack Pattman began his career as a Bergen County Policeman in 1963 and joined the Ho-Ho-Kus Police Department in 1964. He became a sergeant in 1969, lieutenant in 1982,
captain in 1986, and was named chief in 1988. He attended Fairleigh Dickinson University and was a 1979 graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. As the department undergoes its latest change in top personnel, Patrolman Jaime Bodart will assume the lead detective’s post.
