Youth Theater presents ‘Children of Eden’a The Bergen Highlands Youth Theater will perform the musical “Children of Eden” on Sunday, May 22 at 4 p.m. at the Saddle River Valley Cultural Center. The show will also be performed Saturday, May 21 at 7:30 at Calvary United Methodist Church in Dumont. Based on the creation story from Genesis, “Children of Eden” is a frank, heartfelt, and humorous examination of the age-old conflict between parents and children. The show is appropriate for all ages and faiths. With music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and book by John Caird, the performance will be directed by Rev. Jennifer Lovallo with musical direction by Rich Lovallo. The show will be performed by 10 youths from Upper Saddle River, Wayne, and Ringwood. There is no admission charge. A free-will offering will be accepted. “Children of Eden” was originally performed in London in 1986 and was subsequently reworked for the Paper Mill Playhouse in 1997. Club to discuss ‘The Imperfectionists’ The Novels at Night Book Group will discuss “The Imperfectionists” by Tom Rachman on June 1 at 7:30 p.m. at the Upper Saddle River Library. Wrestling clinic set The Pascack Summer Wrestling Technique Clinic will be held at the Wandell School, 97 East Allendale Road in Saddle River, in two sessions: June 27 through July 1, and July 5 through 8. Chat with author Douglas Rogers The Upper Saddle River Library will host author Douglas Rogers, award-winning journalist and travel writer, on May 24 at 7 p.m. Rogers, author of “The Last Resort: A Memoir of Zimbabwe,” was raised in Zimbabwe and now lives in Brooklyn. Thrilling, heartbreaking, and sometimes absurdly funny, his novel is a remarkable, true story about one family in a country under siege and a testament to the love, perseverance, and resilience of the human spirit. Garden club hosts speaker, plant sale Robin Jess will present a program about the New Jersey Pine Barrens at the Saddle River Garden Club’s May 17 meeting. The session will begin at 7 p.m. at the Bishop House, 176 East Saddle River Road in Saddle River. The public is invited to attend. The club’s Plant Sale will be held May 20 from 2 to 4 p.m. and May 21 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. This annual event will be held at the Bishop House. The Saddle River Garden Club will award an academic scholarship of $1,000 to a qualified applicant. In order to be eligible, an applicant must be a Bergen County resident who is planning to study environmental sciences, conservation, architectural design, horticulture, or botany. Returning students are encouraged to apply. The scholarship is funded through the club’s Plant Sale.
