May 11, 2011 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 9 Ho-Ho-Kus Ordinance to cover various projects by Jennifer Crusco The Ho-Ho-Kus Council recently introduced Ordinance 991, which includes funding for various capital projects. The bond ordinance includes a $33,000 appropriation for a pickup truck and plow for the department of public works. The cost of this purchase will be funded by a $1,600 down payment and $31,400 in bonds. A sum of $100,000 has been included for the 2011 road resurfacing program. This year, the borough plans to resurface just one roadway: West Saddle River Road. The ordinance states that the down payment will be $4,800, with the balance of the cost funded by bonds. The ordinance also includes $65,000 for construction of a walking path at North Field. According to the ordinance, funding for this project would include a $30,750 grant from the Bergen County’s Open Space, Recreation, Farmland, and Historic Preservation Trust Fund. A $150,000 grant from the New Jersey Department of Transportation will be devoted to the cost of the traffic control signal at Sheridan and Warren avenues. The cost of that signal is estimated at $160,000, according to the ordinance. A sum of $47,000 has been earmarked for the acquisition radio communications equipment, a fire hose, and turnout gear for the borough’s volunteer fire department. Of that total, $3,100 would be covered by a down payment, and the balance would be funded by bonds and notes. The ordinance also includes $55,000 for the renovation of the police desk/lobby and acquisition of an upgraded telephone system for borough hall. This project would include a down payment of $2,700, with the balance funded by bonds and notes. Plans also call for the purchase of a mobile digital video system for the borough’s police cars. The equipment cost of $40,000 would be funded by a $2,000 down payment and $38,000 in bonds. This ordinance calls for an aggregate appropriation of $500,000, with $475,000 to be funded by bonds. “The cost of such purposes…includes the aggregate amount of $20,000 which is estimated to be necessary to finance the cost of such purposes, including architects’ fees, accounting, engineering, and inspection costs, legal expenses and other expense, including interest on such obligations,” the ordinance further states. A public hearing on this ordinance will be held as part of the May 24 council session. The council will consider the measure for final adoption at that time. EST. 1980 Ho-Ho-Kus Public School student Alexandra Kelly recently served at acting Principal of the Day. The fourth grader hosted the Spring Concert and visited classrooms. Her favorite part of being the principal was working with students and presenting concerts. Principal Dr. Alexis Eckert was thrilled to share the morning with Alexandra. Outside of the classroom Kelly enjoys jazz, tap, and modern dance. The Ho-Ho-Kus Education Foundation supported this event at the group’s annual fundraiser. Eckert and Kelly are pictured above.
