He is often in Trenton and Washington, DC, working to secure the resources needed for the delivery and accessibility of high-quality health care for the elderly and mentally ill. He is also a recognized leader in New Jersey as the immediate past chair of the Leading Age New Jersey (formerly the New Jersey Association of Homes and Services for the Aging). He is also a board member of Washington, D.C.based Leading Age (formerly the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging), board member of the New Jersey Hospital Association Health Research and Educational Trust, and chair of the board of directors of the Wayne Senior Citizens Runnymede Corporation (also known as Sisco Village). In 2006, Struyk was invited to serve on the prestigious Federal Medical Advisory Commission, appointed by United States Health and Human Services Secretary Michael Leavitt. Struyk is also very active in his community serving on the Finance Committee of the Pompton Reformed Church, as treasurer of the Wayne Soccer Club, and previously as a commissioner with the Bergen County Improvement Authority, and member of the Reformed Church of America Board of Benefit Services. He resides in Wayne with his wife and two daughters. This year is the centennial for the non-profit CHCC, which provides mental-health and elder-care programs.
