Movie night
The Allendale Woman’s Club (AWC) has been working with Allendale’s newest neighbors at Orchard Commons to create a program to assist in the enrichment of the residents’ home life in Allendale. The new program, SHARE (Special Housing of Allendale Resident Enrichment), will begin in March when the AWC members will facilitate recreational activities with the residents. The activities will include game nights, movie nights and a morning walking club. To kickoff this partnership, Orchard Commons residents invited the woman’s club to participate in tours of their new development. In anticipation of their first movie night the AWC presented the residents with a new microwave oven to make the popcorn. Pictured are AWC members and co-chairs of the SHARE program, Cheryll Vellek (seated), and Janet Bradley. To the right, standing are Shari DePalma, property manager; Jenai Garccione, service coordinator; and seated is Orchard Commons resident, Julie Meyer.

Prizes include a Weber gas grill, a Sharp 42” flat screen TV, or a $300 Visa gift card. To purchase a $10 prize ticket and support the Fell House and other local charities, contact Heidi Askin at askn2ski@earthlink.com. Winners will be announced at the Fashion Show. Ticket holders do not need to attend the show to qualify. Chamber offers ‘green’ fundraiser The Allendale Chamber of Commerce is offering residents a chance to save on their energy bills, raise money for the Chamber, and embrace a greener lifestyle. The Chamber has partnered with Viridian, an energy provider, to encourage consumer choice when purchasing electricity for their homes. With the deregulation of the electricity industry, consumers in north Jersey have the option to choose their electric supplier. Those who sign up with Viridian receive a 10 percent discount on the first month’s supply portion of their energy bills. Sign up under the Allendale Chamber’s campaign, and the Chamber will receive a contribution from Viridian to fund its programs. After enrolling with Viridian there is
little else the consumer needs to do. The local utility continues to send the bills and deliver the electricity to the home or business. The difference is that Veridian’s name and rates are listed on the bill. Enroll online at www.Viridian.com/ allendalegoesgreen or by phone at (201) 236-1910. Delapenha Scholarship available All high school seniors who reside in Allendale are invited to apply for the $2,000 scholarship established in honor of Donald Delapenha, a borough resident who perished at the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001. Students are required to write a 300500 word essay on one of the following four topics: What are your future goals and aspirations? What volunteer activity are you most passionate about and why? Students must also submit a resume of academic, extracurricular, and community based activities on or by April 8 to Allendale Borough Hall, 500 West Crescent Avenue, Allendale, NJ 07401.
