Lions host Easter Egg Hunt The annual Saddle River Valley Lions Club Easter Egg Hunt will be held Saturday, April 16 at Lions Memorial Park, Lake Street and Valley Lane in Upper Saddle River. Children who are age eight and younger are invited to bring their baskets and join the fun. The hunt will start promptly at 10 a.m. In the event of inclement weather, the hunt will take place April 23. The Easter Egg Hunt is open to children in all surrounding towns. Tickets for the Lions 2011 Ford Mustang fundraiser will be available at the Easter Egg Hunt. Since its founding in 1958, the Saddle River Valley Lions Club has donated over $1,800,000 to sight related charities and to community organizations throughout the Saddle River Valley. Church offers ‘Flying Solo’ Church of the Presentation will offer an eight-week Flying Solo series for those who have entered a new single life after divorce or the death of a spouse. Created and facilitated by Beth Tiger, the series will cover a myriad of pertinent topics. The group will meet at the Gathering Room North in the church, 271 West Saddle River Road in Upper Saddle River, on Thursdays, March 31 to May 26. Amis novel to be discussed Coffee Talk Book Group at the Upper Saddle River Public Library will discuss Martin Amis’ “The Pregnant Widow,” on Thursday, April 14 at 10:30 a.m. Copies of the book may be picked up at the circulation desk. Learn about Abigail Adams “Abigail Adams: Dearest Friend” will be presented at the Upper Saddle River Library, 245 Lake Street, on Monday, April 4 at 1 p.m. This program will focus on first lady Abigail Adams, a strong and influential woman deeply engaged in the politics of her time. While her husband was away, she took over the management of her family and the farm, leaving a legacy of letters unlike any others. This program is offered by the Horizon
Speakers Bureau of the New Jersey Council for the Humanities. Refreshments will be served. Novak offers clutter-clearing tips Best-selling author and expert organizer Jamie Novak will reveal her trademark three-step system for organization on Tuesday, April 5. The program will be held at the Upper Saddle River Library, 245 Lake Street in Upper Saddle River, at 7:30 p.m. Often seen on HGTV and QVC, Novak currently serves as the home blogger for “Martha Stewart’s Whole Living.” From paper piles to closets, recipes to receipts, and clothes to the car, Novak covers it all in a humorous way. Foundation sets April gala The Upper Saddle River Educational Foundation will hold its eighth annual gala dinner dance, “Town Night Out,” on Saturday April 2. The event will begin at 7 p.m. at the Stony Hill Inn in Hackensack. This community-wide celebration will include a lavish cocktail party featuring international food stations, premium open bar, several music ensembles, and live and special auctions. All proceeds will benefit the students in kindergarten through eighth grade in Upper Saddle River’s public schools. Each year, the USREF bestows its “Award for Educational Excellence” at this event in honor of an outstanding volunteer within the community. This year, the foundation will honor Eileen Meighan, a founding member of the Dick Meighan Memorial Run. This year, DMMR organizers will be planning the 13th Annual 5K, which will be held on Thanksgiving morning. This event directly benefits Upper Saddle River with donations benefiting local civic and volunteer organizations. Meighan is also the founding member of the DMMR Extra Mile Scholarship Fund, which has given over $20,000 in scholarships to deserving high school students who give back to their communities by going the “extra mile” through community service and volunteerism.
