Page 6 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • March 23, 2011 Allendale Tea Room organizers thank community, seek volunteers The board of directors of Concerned Citizens of Allendale and the Tea Room Committee thank everyone in the community for the wonderful items they donated to the Tea Room at the John Fell House, located on Franklin Turnpike in Allendale. Donors provided a selection of beautiful china, glasses, flatware, and linens that will enhance the Tea Room when it opens to the public. In October, Tea Room organizers tested the operation by hosting a “dry run.” Twelve invited guests enjoyed an afternoon tea consisting of butternut squash soup, mesclun salad, finger sandwiches, dessert pastries, and scones with preserves and clotted cream. Five varieties of tea were offered, and each guest received cards containing interesting tea facts from Colonial times and the history of tea from around the world. The tables were set with a selection of the donated china, and the centerpieces were donated by Rohsler’s Allendale Nursery. There was a short presentation about the Fell House and the life of its original owner, Revolutionary War hero John Fell, while members of the Tea Room Committee served high tea. The committee is anxious to open to the public, but there are permits to be obtained and renovation work to be undertaken, which includes refitting the kitchen. In the meantime, the group plans to hold several off-site Afternoon Teas as fundraisers during the spring and the summer. Dates of the upcoming Afternoon Teas will be announced shortly. No experience is necessary, but the committee will offer a short training session. The committee is also still in need of teapots, oblong and round tablecloths, napkins, trays, sugar tongs, and serving tongs.
