Tickets available for ‘Beauty and the Beast’ The Emil A. Cavallini Middle School in Upper Saddle River will present “Beauty and the Beast” on Tuesday, March 29 at 3 p.m. Tickets for this popular musical are $3. Senior citizens will be admitted free. Tickets may be picked up in front of the auditorium before the performance. Foundation sets April gala The Upper Saddle River Educational Foundation will hold its eighth annual gala dinner dance, “Town Night Out,” on Saturday April 2. The event will begin at 7 p.m. at the Stony Hill Inn in Hackensack. This community-wide celebration will include a lavish cocktail party featuring international food stations, premium open bar, several music ensembles, and live and special auctions. All proceeds will benefit the students in kindergarten through eighth grade in Upper Saddle River’s public schools. Each year, the USREF bestows its “Award for Educational Excellence” at this event in honor of an outstanding volunteer within the community. This year, the foundation will honor Eileen Meighan, a founding member of the Dick Meighan Memorial Run. This year, DMMR organizers will be planning the 13th Annual 5K, which will be held on Thanksgiving morning. This event directly benefits Upper Saddle River with donations benefiting local civic and volunteer organizations. Meighan is also the founding member of the DMMR Extra Mile Scholarship Fund, which has given over $20,000 in scholarships to deserving high school students who give back to their communities by going the “extra mile” through community service and volunteerism. Tickets for the April gala are on sale now and are being offered at a pre-sale price of $210 per couple. The price will adjust to $250 per couple or $125 per person after the pre-sale expires. Garden Club offers scholarship The Saddle River Garden Club will award an academic scholarship of $1,000 to a qualified applicant. In order to be eligible, an applicant must be a resident of Bergen County who is planning to study environmental sciences, conservation, architectural design, horticulture, or botany. Lions hold car fundraiser
The Saddle River Valley Lions Club is selling tickets for its 47th annual car contest. The grand prize is a 2011 candy apple red Ford Mustang, fully loaded with the premium V-6 sport package. Tickets cost $10. The winner will be announced on June 4 at the Lions’ annual carnival held in Upper Saddle River.Since its founding in 1958, the Saddle River Valley Lions Club has raised over $1.8 million for a variety of charities. The group also contributes to civic, youth, education, and human service groups within Mahwah, Ramsey, Allendale, Saddle River, and Upper Saddle River. Get to know Facebook The Upper Saddle River Library is offering a class on the social network, Facebook, on Thursday, March 17 at 7:30 p.m. Facebook is a way to connect with family, friends, and organizations. The program will cover: exploring a Facebook page, what makes the site so popular, privacy, and ease of use concerns. Presenter Carole Lotito has 20 years of systems and marketing experience and has taught scores of users how to make the best use of office and social technology.
