The scholarships are funded by the proceeds of the Annual Golf Outing. Fisher Memorial Golf Outing set The Sean Fisher Memorial Foundation’s Third Annual Golf Outing will be held at the Apple Ridge Country Club in Mahwah on Monday, May 9. The foundation was established following the sudden death of Waldwick resident, Sean Fisher, on his thirteenth birthday, due to an undetected heart condition. In the two years following Fisher’s sudden death, the foundation has provided heart health screenings for Waldwick High School students and scholarships for graduating students. Register for football & cheerleading Registration for the fall 2011 football and cheerleading season will be held on Tuesday, March 22 in the Waldwick High School cafeteria from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Flag football is available for children entering first and second grade. Cheerleading is available for children entering grades two through eight. Tackle football is available for children entering grades three through eight. Saint Patrick’s Dinner to be held The American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit 57 of Waldwick will host a Saint Patrick’s Dinner on Saturday, March 19 at 2 p.m. at the Legion Post at 46 Franklin Turnpike in Waldwick. Tickets are $10, and the supply is limited. Library Building Fund receives gift The staff of Liberty 100 Realty gathered at the Waldwick Library to present a gift of $2,500 to the Waldwick Library Building Fund. The gift has been acknowledged with an inscribed nameplate on the Donor Recognition Display in the lobby of the library building. The Library Steering Committee is working to raise another $45,000 for the plan to expand the library meeting room. The price tag for the building project is estimated at $400,000. Students of the Month announced As part of the student recognition program at Waldwick High School and Waldwick Middle School, faculty members have named their selections for the February Students of the Month. The high school students who were honored are Colleen McHugh for athletics, Magdaleine Claus for consumer science, and Andrew Smith for theater. Middle school students who received recognition are sixth grader Emily Dozot, seventh grader Dan Scherb, and eighth grader Michael Alvarez. Boy Scouts hold Paper Drive Waldwick Boy Scouts will be picking up newspapers for recycling on Saturday, March 19. Residents are asked to have newspapers bundled and at the curb no later than 8 a.m. Georgia and Armenia featured Photographer Lorraine Matys will present a slide lecture, “Ancient Lands: Georgia and Armenia,” on Wednesday, March 30 at 7:30 p.m. at the Waldwick Public Library. The small republics of Georgia and Armenia, located in the heart of the Caucasus, have for thousands of years been a crossroads of cultures. Highlights of the slide lecture will include centuries-old churches with richly decorated wall paintings and icons, mountain landscapes with picturesque villages, age-old fortresses, and caravansaries that once accommodated merchants traveling along the Silk Road from Europe to the East.
