March 9, 2010 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 5 Allendale School board hires Barcadepone as K-8 superintendent by John Koster The Allendale Board of Education has hired Michael J. Barcadepone as the new K-8 superintendent of schools and expects him to take over the reins of the two-school district on or about May 2. His salary, compliant with the new state guidelines, will be $145,000 per year. The board also voted last week to extend the contract of Acting Superintendent Lawrence V. Hughes from March 1 until the date Barcadepone arrives, with the option of keeping Hughes in charge until June 30 if necessary. The married father of two children, Barcadepone is now the elementary school principal of the New Providence School District, where he has served since 2007. He had served as assistant principal for that district for a short time before his promotion to principal. He began his career as a sixth grade teacher in the Saddle Brook schools in 1999, and ultimately served as assistant to the principal in Saddle Brook. Barcadepone is a graduate of Saint Peter’s College with a double major in elementary education and psychology. He holds a master’s degree from Kean College in instruction and curriculum in math, science and computers, and a master’s degree in education administration and supervision from Montclair State University. He will be receiving his doctorate in educational administration and supervision from Seton Hall University. His doctoral dissertation focuses on special education law. He is a certified elementary school teacher, and a certified principal and administrator. In his previous district, he increased the amount of technology available to students, and developed a PTA Enrichment Academy to bring students after-school optional courses in creative writing, photography, and cooking. School staff members said the new superintendent had made a very good first impression on them, and they are looking forward to working with him. Hughes, who was hired as an interim replacement for Jerilyn Caprio, is also well liked in the Allendale K-8 district. The board also approved the tentative K-8 budget of $16,347,722 with a general fund of $15,199,223, a special revenue fund of $175,789, and debt service of $972,710. The tentative budget, if adopted, would result in a general tax levy of $13,546,837 and debt service of $848,698 for a total tax levy of $14,395,533. No detailed information about the impact on local property taxes was available at press time.
