Fish & Chips Dinner planned The Waldwick United Methodist Church at 25 Franklin Turnpike will hold its Annual Fish & Chips Dinner catered by Tastefully British on March 28 from 5 to 7 p.m. Take out service will start at 5 p.m. and sit down service will begin at 5:30 p.m. The dinner will include fish, chips, coleslaw, dessert, and a beverage. Orders for chicken dinners are available. The cost is $12 per person. Tickets may be ordered by calling the church office at (201) 652-5130 by March 21. Tickets are sold in advance only. Learn about organic lawn care Struggling to maintain the perfect lawn with conventional fertilizers and pesticides can wreak havoc on both the wallet and the environment. Landscape professional Mark Borst will present the basics of organic lawn care on Tuesday, March 22 at 7:30 p.m. at the Waldwick Public Library. Learn how to create a balance of beneficial organisms in the soil without the use of harmful chemicals. Beefsteak to benefit Wildcats The Bergen County Wildcats will host a Beefsteak Dinner on Saturday, April 2 at Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 467 Grandview Avenue in Wyckoff. Doors will open at 6 p.m. The event will include all you can eat beefsteak, salad, fries, and dessert. Soda and coffee will also be available. Catering is provided by Nightingale Caterers. The Waldwick Band will continue its Winter Season Sunday afternoon, March 13 at auditorium at The Village School, 100 West Prospect Street in Waldwick. The 3 p.m. concert will feature clarinetist Alex Kolpakchi. There is no admission charge. The band will be under the baton of Music Director Edmund A. Moderacki, who will open the concert with Henry Fillmore’s “Americans We.” He will conduct the ensemble in Alfred Reed’s “Festive Overture,” “Australian Up Country Tune” by Percy Grainger, and music from Robert Merrrill’s Pulitzer Prize Award winning Broadway show “Fiorello!” Francois Adrien Boieldieu’s “Calif of Bagdad Overture,” Arthur Benjamin’s “Jamaican Rhumba” and John Cacavas’ “Brass Aflame” are also on the program. The band’s trumpets will present a special ensemble piece by the Italian Renaissance composer Gabrieli featuring antiphonal choirs. Marches by Robert Crawford and Karl King will complete the concert. Kolpakchi’s interest in the clarinet began in his early teens. His passion for the instrument has only increased

over time. He furthered his studies at the Conservatory for Music in the former USSR, graduating at the top of his class. He later worked in various venues that included big band ensembles, theater orchestras, operas, and symphonic ensembles -- his personal favorite. In the mid 1970s, Alex emigrated to Israel, eventually joining and becoming the principal clarinetist of the Police Band of the State of Israel. While serving as that band’s principal soloist, he traveled around the world and performed for various heads of state, dignitaries, and celebrities. Coming to the United States in 1988, Kolpakchi concentrated on repair and restoration of instruments for professional musicians. He currently performs with several Bergen County bands in addition to the Waldwick Band. At the coming concert, he will perform the second and third movements of von Weber’s “Clarinet Concerto No. 2.” The remaining concert in the Waldwick Band’s current series is scheduled for May 1. WEF sets Town Wide Garage Sale
The Waldwick Education Foundation will host a Town Wide Garage Sale on April 2 and 3 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. All are invited to clear out their closets for a good cause. Last year, over 100 houses participated. For a $25 fee participants hold their own Garage Sales at their residences in Waldwick. Included in the fee will be a listing on the map announcing the sale, a sale marker, and advertising of the sale.
