The group will see “Hooray for Hollywood” and have lunch. The group meets the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month in the Education Center of the Hermitage. On March 8, the group will play bingo. Folksinger, songwriter, Steve Kelman will entertain at the March 22 meeting. Chamber schedules meeting The Ho-Ho-Kus Chamber of Commerce will meet on Wednesday, March 16 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Sicilian Sun Ristorante, 604 North Maple Avenue in Ho-Ho-Kus. Roundtable to discuss Cold War Learn about Cold War history in Bergen County at the Feb. 23 Hermitage Roundtable meeting. The program will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Hermitage, 335 North Franklin Turnpike, Ho-Ho-Kus. Richard Levine, George Friedel, and Jack Goudsward will present “US Army NY-93/94 Franklin Lakes-Mahwah Nike Missile Base, A Cold War History. Friedel worked as an Army officer in 1960 to 1962, and has many details regarding the base. Goudsward is a Franklin Lakes historian, a trustee emeritus of the Bergen County Historical Society, and wrote the article “The Public History of the Franklin Lakes Nike Base NY-93/94.” He specializes in military history. Levine is independently researching the Nike missile base, was an aerospace technical writer, and served at a Nike base on Okinawa in the 1964 to 1965 timeframe as a battery control area technician. For more information, call (201) 445-8311. ‘Hoppers of Ho-Ho-Kus’ to be discussed “The Hoppers of Ho-Ho-Kus” will be featured at the March 9 history lecture at the Hermitage, 335 North Franklin Turnpike in Ho-Ho-Kus. The program will begin at 7:30 p.m. Learn about the lives of the Hoppers, and the impact the Revolutionary War had on five Hopper families living in Hoppertown (Ho-Ho-Kus). Maria Pratt Hopper, certified genealogist and retired teacher with more than 25 years of genealogical research experience, will discuss the children and grandchildren of John (Jan) Hopper and Rachel Terhune, who were living in Ho-Ho-Kus at the time of the Revolutionary War. The featured speaker is the historian for the Borough of Montvale and past president of the Genealogical Society of Bergen County. She compiled the “Hopper Family Genealogy: Descendants of Andries Willemszen Hoppe(n) of New Amsterdam, 1651-1658: The First Six Generations.” Admission is $5. Reservations are encouraged. Club plans Dessert Card Party, meetings The Woman’s Club of Ho-Ho-Kus will host its annual Spring Dessert Card Party fundraiser on April 8. This event will be held at 12:30 p.m. at the Waldwick United Methodist Church at 25 Franklin Turnpike, Waldwick. Homemade desserts, coffee and tea, and special prize baskets will be featured. Tickets are $15 and may be purchased by calling Barbara at (201) 444-9389. On March 7, puppeteer and children’s books author, Carole Ford Dobeck will address the group at its noon meeting. The session will be held at Saint Bartholomew’s Church Hall, 70 Sheridan Avenue in Ho-Ho-Kus. The April 4 meeting will feature Josen Cianello’s tips for growing, storing, and using herbs. The Woman’s Club of Ho-Ho-Kus is a member of the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs, organized in 1894. During WWII the NJSFWC established a committee on recreational work with the armed service forces civil defense members while serving on the New Jersey Council of National Defense. This work continues to the present day, and all member clubs of the NJSFWC are working toward helping those who are fighting cancer. The Woman’s Club of Ho-Ho-Kus is supporting Gilda’s Club in Hackensack Register men’s softball league Registration is underway for the Ho-Ho-Kus/Saddle River Men’s Softball League’s spring season. Now in its 38th year, the league is modified-pitch style and plays Sunday mornings from March 27 to the end of June. The cost per player is $85. Registration deadline is March 1. Redesigned website unveiled The Worth-Pinkham Memorial Library in Ho-Ho-Kus has unveiled its newly redesigned website. On the site are links to the New York Times Best-Sellers List, BCCLS, the Borough of Ho-Ho-Kus website, the Ho-Ho-Kus Public School, and reference resources. There is also information on BeAT, managing borrowing from home with a valid library card, children’s programs, and new books that the library has recently acquired.
