Wanamaker named borough’s new chief of police
ing, and Wanamaker is due to be sworn in at the March 15 public council session. According to the resolution, Wanamaker’s compensation as chief, retroactive to Jan. 1, 2011, will be $142,000. “We’re very happy that the captain is now being elevated to the position of chief,” Ho-Ho-Kus Mayor Thomas Randall said of Wanamaker’s appointment. “He has been acting in that capacity since the retirement of Chief (Gregory) Kallenberg.” Randall added that he anticipated that the department’s performance and morale would remain at top levels under Wanamaker’s direction. “I’m looking forward to the swearing-in ceremony,” Randall added. Wanamaker, who was named captain in May 2010, became officer in charge of the department on Dec. 1, one day after Chief Kallenberg’s retirement. The new chief is a 26-year veteran of the Ho-Ho-Kus Police Department. He was first hired as a dispatcher, and later became a patrolman. He was sergeant from 2000 to 2002, when he was promoted to the lieutenant’s post. As a Ho-Ho-Kus police officer, Wanamaker received

two Life-Saving Awards: one for assisting a man who was experiencing cardiac arrest while working out at Wanamaker’s gym, and another for assisting in the armed standoff on Hollywood Avenue in 2009. His file includes numerous commendations, multiple physical fitness awards, the END DWI Award, and letters of gratitude from those he has assisted over the years. For the last decade, Wanamaker has been in charge of the Ho-Ho-Kus Traffic Bureau. He has also served as Terminal Access Coordinator, a post that has since been assumed by Officer M Mosca. Wanamaker handles in-service training for the department’s personnel, schedules classes for HoHo-Kus officers who wish to attend courses at the Law & Public Safety Institute in Mahwah, and schedules all shifts for the department. Wanamaker is a graduate of Waldwick High School, where he met Meg, his wife of 20 years. He currently coaches the lacrosse program in his hometown of Waldwick.
