Eleanor B. Bauer, nee Surber, of Upper Saddle River died Feb. 17. She was 86. She graduated from Beaver College and became a licensed dietician. She was an active member in her college sorority, Tri Delta. She is survived by her daughter Wendi Fahan of Chester, New York, and two grandsons. She was predeceased by her husband Louis C. Bauer, and two of her sisters. Howard “Sandy” R. Helfand of Upper Saddle River died Feb. 20. He was 78. He was a U.S. Army Security Agent veteran of the Korean War. He was a life member of the Army Security Agency Korean War Veterans Association and served as vice president and membership chair. Following his time in the army, he worked for the government for 25 years. He was a substitute teacher at Northern Highlands Regional High School for many years. He is survived by his wife Sydney Sue (nee Behrman), and family and friends. He was predeceased by his brother Fredrick. Olga Kinahan, nee Pokol, of Waldwick died Feb. 20. She was 72. She is survived by her children Edward Kinahan Jr. of Wyckoff, Nicholas Kinahan of Hawthorne, Jason Kinahan of Northfield, Connecticut, and Padraic Kinahan of West Milford, 12 grandchildren, and her sisters Mary Bacote, Ethel DiNicholas, Elizabeth Morris, and Irene Emm. She was predeceased by her husband Edward Vincent Kinahan Sr., and her daughters Kathleen Mary Kinahan and Jean Elizabeth Eckstein. Arrangements were made by Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff. June Locher, nee Van Dalinda, of Franklin Lakes died Feb. 22. She was 83. She was an office manager with Scott Foresman in Oakland, and a parishioner of Most Blessed Sacrament R.C. Church in Franklin Lakes. She is survived by her children David Locher of Monroe, New York, and Sharon Heisler of Mahwah, and five grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Francis X. Locher. Marcus of Glen Rock died Feb. 20. He was 62. He was a mechanic for Passaic Valley Sewage Commission in Newark, and operated C. Marcus Disposal of Glen Rock. Dr. Lelio N. Passaglia of Exmore, Virginia, formerly of Saddle River, died Feb. 21. He was 86. He graduated from Liceo Scientifico Ulisse Dini in the city of the Pisa, Italy and received a medical degree from The University of Bologna Medical School. In 1957, he joined the staff of Hackensack Hospital and he established a private practice in internal medicine in Bogota, which he continued for 33 years. In 1982, he was he was given the chairmanship of the Quality Assurance and Utilization Committee. He was a member of the cardiology division of the department of internal medicine at Hackensack Hospital from 1959 to 1996. He was executive director of the medical center’s Quality Improvement Program from 1986 to 1993 and chairman of the Quality Council from 1990 to 1996. In 1986, he assumed the position of executive director of Medical Performance and Risk Management. He was a member of the American College of Physicians, the American Society of Internal Medicine, and the American Society of Quality AssuranceUtilization Review Physicians, the Bergen County Medical Society and the New Jersey Medical Society. He was a founding member of Les Amis du Vin Society in New Jersey. He was a past member of The Eastern Shore Yacht and Country Club. He is survived by his wife Peggy, his sons Carlo Passaglia of Wayne, and Brian Scott Passaglia of Johnsburg, New York, four grandchildren, and his sister Ursolina Passaglia Corso of Tuscany, Italy. He was predeceased by his parents Carlo and Nina Barsella Passaglia. Arrangements were made by the Doughty Funeral Home in Exmore, Virginia. With his wife, he was owner and operator of Trattoria Fratelli restaurant in Ridgewood for 17 years. He was the founder and sponsor of the Opera in the Park, held in Ridgewood from 1994 to 2003. He is survived by his wife Sara (nee Kress), his children Claudio, Norma Riva Schipper, Sergio Riva and Mario Riva, and four grandchildren. Arrangements were made by Feeney Funeral Home in Ridgewood. Elena S. Savchuck, nee Stupak, of Waldwick died Feb. 18. She was 89. She was a member of Orthodox Christian

Eleanor Spann, nee Kletcher, of Pompton Plains, formerly of Wyckoff and Hawthorne, died Feb. 18. She was 80. She and her husband owned and operated Spann’s Bakery in Hawthorne. She is survived by her children Joyce Smith of Mahwah, Ellen Iversen of Little Falls, two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Max F. Spann, and her daughter Susan Spann. Arrangements were made by Browning-Forshay Funeral Home in Hawthorne. She was 86. She retired from the New York City Board of Education as principal of the Brooklyn Center for Multiply-Handicapped Children. She is survived by her children Jeffrey Strauss, Daniel Strauss, David Russell Jr., Sargent Russell, Marjorie Russell, Sara Melling, daughter-in-law Ann Strauss, 14 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husbands Otto Strauss and David Russell, and her son G. Robert Strauss. Memorial donations may be made to the G. She was the founder and sole owner of the Franklin Lakes Animal Hospital in Franklin Lakes. She graduated from Ramapo High School in Franklin Lakes and attended Cornell University before receiving her veterinary degree from the University of Pennsylvania. She was a member of the Mahwah Board of Health, and served on the boards of several charitable organizations. She and staff members volunteered medical support to Katrina animal victims, and Friends of Animals rescue missions in Utah. She is survived by her husband Donald Muller, her children Brigette, Jack, Kyra, and Reese, her parents Joe and Joan Welch of Franklin Lakes, her brother Michael of Ringwood, and her in-laws Marilyn and Don Muller from Mahwah.
