Having lived in India, Singapore, and the United States, Mohan’s paintings reflect these diverse influences. While in India, she studied under the guidance of a renowned Indian artist. The colors, sounds and sights, and folk art in India have been a source of inspiration for her. She moved to Singapore in early 2001, where the tropical colors and the study of Chinese brush painting inspired her to explore and express in other media. Mohan is currently a member of the Ridgewood Art Institute. While she prefers using oils, she enjoys painting on silk and batik, and has dabbled in printmaking and mixed media. She has exhibited her oils, silk paintings, and Chinese brush paintings in Singapore. The library is located at 91 Warren Avenue. (continued from page 14) each of the three tiers built into the hill, will closely resemble a nearby existing stone wall in the courtyard area. Each of the three tiers will be planted with flowers and shrubs. The area will also have a bench. In an effort to fundraise for the project, Menakis will ask for donations and will present parishioners of Saint Luke’s with an opportunity to purchase an engraved plaque, which will be placed along one of the garden’s three walls. Work on the project is planned for the early part of the summer, with both the preparation and construction totaling a minimum of 100 hours. The service hours given by fellow Boy Scouts will play a vital role in making the project a success.
The Ho-Ho-Kus Inn & Tavern hosted the First Annual Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary Bake-Off Contest, which brought together women from the fire department auxiliaries of Ho-Ho-Kus, Wyckoff, Waldwick, and Mahwah -- and their pies, cakes and other sweet treats for judging by a panel of judges, including Ho-Ho-Kus Mayor Tom Randall, Wyckoff Mayor Kevin Rooney, Mahwah Councilman John Roth, Marisa Sandora of Bergen Health & Life magazine, food and recipe blogger Kate Morgan Jackson, and local wine importer and restaurant consultant Alex Berlingeri. Proceeds from the bake-off, including the pre-sale of a commemorative cookbook, will benefit a fire relief charity.
