Winners of the Democratic and Republican primaries will now prepare to meet in the November general election. Independents had until the day of the primary to announce their candidacy, but Independent candidates’ names do not appear on the primary ballots. A fall contest will take place in the Borough of Upper Saddle River’s mayoral election, where Independent Marshall Grupp will challenge incumbent Republican Councilwoman Joanne Minichetti for the seat. Summaries of the primary results follow. Allendale Republican voters have endorsed the borough’s two Voters endorse candidates in local primary elections GOP candidates for council. Amy Wilcynski, who owns and operates an ornamental gardening company with an emphasis on the environment, received 80 ballots. She is seeking re-election to a second term. She is the council’s resident expert on trees and other environmental matters and has been an active proponent of the revitalization of Crestwood Lake. Jacqueline McSwiggan received 89 ballots. A recent appointee to the Allendale Board of Adjustment and a former member of the Allendale K-8 Board of Education, McSwiggan is running for the seat being vacated by fiveterm incumbent Robert Schoepflin, who opted not to run this year. McSwiggan is also president of the Municipal Alliance. She is retired from an executive position at the Bank of New York. No Democrats filed for the primary. Ho-Ho-Kus There was no challenge in the GOP primary in Ho-HoKus this year, and no challenge is anticipated in November, as no Democrats or Independents have filed for election. Ho-Ho-Kus Mayor Thomas Randall received 70 ballots, incumbent Councilwoman Maryellen Lennon received 80 ballots, and newcomer Steve Shell received 77 votes. Randall, a practicing attorney with Randall & Randall, was last elected in 2007. Before he became mayor, he spent 13 years as a member of the borough council.
