Ho-Ho-Kus June 15, 2011 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 5 Borough officials review LLC’s rezoning request by Jennifer Crusco A committee of Ho-Ho-Kus officials is currently reviewing a rezoning request from a private enterprise that is attempting to bring a funeral home to the Saint Luke’s Church property on Franklin Turnpike near the Waldwick border. Late last year, the borough received the request from a professional representing TLB Property Development, LLC. That entity is currently known as 348 North Franklin Turnpike, LLC. The prospective planning board applicant originally sought the rezoning of Lots 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, Block 103 in Ho-Ho-Kus. The proposal would allow the LLC to use land near the Waldwick border for commercial purposes. A borough official who is familiar with the proposal indicated that the LLC’s principals have since decided to revise their plans, and are asking the borough to consider rezoning just one lot. Ho-Ho-Kus Mayor Thomas Randall said that, after the rezoning inquiry, he formed, without prejudice, a committee to review the issue. Randall is a member of the committee, along with Council Members Kevin Shea and Phil Rorty, and Ho-Ho-Kus Planning Board Chairman John Hanlon, and other borough officials. Randall said the committee is in an “informational phase” and has had a brief meeting and a follow-up session to discuss the issue. “It’s a novel request, and it raises a lot of questions,” Mayor Randall said. Harold Ritvo, the attorney for the LLC, contacted the borough with this request just before Christmas 2010 and provided a planning report in relation to the rezoning proposal. The issue has been discussed by the planning board, but the matter has been referred to the mayor’s committee, and a zoning change would require the council’s approval. The newly-established Ho-Ho-Kus Parking Committee met last week for an overview of the situation in the borough’s downtown business district. Councilman John Mongelli, Police Chief John Wanamaker, and Borough Administrator Don Cirulli drove the local streets together, and immediately located some items that will require attention. “We found some old signs that are unreadable, some conflicting signs on the same street (such as a sign restricting parking and another sign allowing limited parking), and signs that are too small,” Cirulli said. He also noted that sign posts that were removed during the recent streetscape proj- Parking Committee begins review process ect must be replaced, particularly along Sheridan Avenue where the new sidewalks were installed. “We will replace the old, unreadable signs, review and revise most of the allotted parking limits, and replace the signs that were removed during the last of the streetscape project,” Cirulli added. At present, parking limits range from a minimum of 30 minutes to a maximum of three hours. The committee will review those parameters in terms of practicality given the types of businesses located nearby.
