Program on World War II era offered The Traveling Literary Theatre will present “The Words and Music of World War II” at the Waldwick Public Library on Thursday, June 30 at 7:30 p.m. This one-hour dramatic presentation will feature heartfelt letters, personal accounts, famous quotes, and songs of the era. The words are authentic and the music pays tribute to the courage and soul of a great generation. Summer Reading Club registration under way Children ages two and up are invited to participate in the Waldwick Library Summer Reading Club, “One World, Many Stories,” from June 20 to Aug. 26. Children who read 10 books at their grade level or higher, or have 20 books read to them, qualify for prizes at the end of summer. Sign up may be completed at the front desk beginning Monday, June 20. Registration will be open for special events planned for this summer. Flow Circus Juggling, which is the first event, is planned for Saturday, June 25 at 11 a.m. Participation in the Summer Reading Club and related special events is open to Waldwick residents only. Vincenza Scarpaci to speak Educator and lecturer Vincenza Scarpaci, author of “The Journey of Italians in America,” will present a slide lecture at the Waldwick Public Library on Tuesday, June 21 at 7:30 p.m. Dr. Scarpaci will examine the history and legacy of Italians in the United States through some of the more than 400 unique photographs—some taken in Waldwick—that appear in her book. The lecture will illustrate how, beginning in the late 1870s, Italian immigrants and their descendants faced the hardships, disappointments, achievements, and successes of the American experience. A Brooklyn native, Dr. Scarpaci graduated from Hofstra University in 1961 with a bachelor’s degree in history. She went on to obtain her Ph.D. in history from Rutgers University in 1972. She has worked as an educator at the university level, consultant, grant writer, and volunteer coordinator. Her work has been published in journals and encyclopedias around the globe. She resides in Eugene, Oregon. The program is free and open to the public; however, space is limited and advance registration is required. Boosters plan Golf Outing The Waldwick High School Athletic Association Booster Club will host the 2011 Warriors Golf Classic on Wednesday, June 29 at the Farmstead Golf and Country Club in Lafayette. The cost of the event is a donation of $125 per golfer and includes one round of golf, breakfast refreshments, a sit down lunch, and prizes. Waldwick High classes plan reunion The Fourth Waldwick Multi-Year Reunion will be held on Oct. 1 from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Doubletree/Hilton Hotel on Route 17 South in Mahwah. Graduates of the Classes of 1966 through 1976 are invited.
