Lennon, a 33-year borough resident, is seeking election to a new three-year term. She is a graduate of Saint Joseph’s College and was an elementary school teacher. The councilwoman’s activities have included troop leader for Girl Scouts, YAC Dance co-chair, and Red Cross Babysitting Course and St. Gabriel’s CCD instructor. She has run a nursery program in town for preschoolers, and served as a substitute teacher in several local districts. Lennon was elected to her first term in 2005. Shell and his wife Elizabeth have been residents of Ho-Ho-Kus since 1995, having moved to the borough from New York City. Their three daughters are being educated at the Ho-Ho-Kus/Waldwick Nursery School, the Ho-Ho-Kus Public School, and Northern Highlands Regional High School. After receiving his bachelor’s degree, he began a 28-year career in sales, marketing, and management with Stauffer Chemicals, Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising, American Cyanamid, and Pfizer. He is currently vice president and general manager in the U.S. Animal Health Division of Merck & Co. No Democrats or Independents have filed. Saddle River Saddle River Mayor Samuel Raia and Councilmen Michael Mutter and Michael Toomey, all of whom are Republicans, ran unopposed in their party’s primary. No Democrats or Independents have filed this year. Raia, who is running for a second term as mayor, received 124 votes. Before being elected mayor in 2007, Raia spent two terms as a councilman and served as a member of the planning board. During his first term on the council, he spearheaded the reorganization of the police department and the creation of the borough’s 24-hour police station and dispatch facility. He also headed the approval and development of the fire department’s public safety water lines and the Rindlaub Park improvement program. A long-time borough resident, Raia has spent over three decades as a corporate manager. Councilman Mutter received 144 ballots. The incumbent received a bachelor’s degree from Saint John’s University, College of Pharmacy and a master’s from New Jersey Institute of Technology. He is received a Patient Safety Leadership Fellowship AHA/HRET. He is pharmacy manager and director of patient safety at The Valley Hospital. He is a member of the American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists and of the New Jersey Hospital Association. Toomey received 140 votes. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Yale University, and logged over 40 years as a sales and marketing executive in the computer hardware, software, and service business. He now runs his own small business in semi-retirement. No Democrats or Independents filed. Upper Saddle River Upper Saddle River Council President Joanne Minichetti, a Republican who is running for the mayor’s seat, received 96 ballots in her party’s primary. Incumbent GOP Councilman Roger DeBerardine received 92 ballots, GOP newcomer Steven DeMartino, who is running for Minichetti’s seat, received 87 votes. Marshall Grupp announced his Independent run for the mayor’s seat before the primary. Grupp will challenge Minichetti in the November general election. Grupp moved to Upper Saddle River in 1995. He is a partner in Sound Lounge, the largest audio post-production facility in New York. Since moving to the borough, he has volunteered for several local programs. He has been a member of the USR Recreation Committee for eight years, and is the creator of the Thanksgiving Trot, which is now known as the Dick Meighan 5K Run. He has coached a girls’ travel basketball team for three years, although he has no child on the team, and has been president of the USR Basketball Association for the past six years. Grupp is the founder of the Mike Blake Tip-Off Classic basketball tournament. He also initiated the Youth Triathlon for children ages eight through 14, which has been held annually since 2003. Grupp is also consultant for the USR Women’s Biathlon. Minichetti was named to the council in 2007. She is a planning board member and served as liaison to the zoning board and to the Historic Preservation Commission. The fair featured home pet care options, veterinary chiropractic and massage, homeopathic options, fresh food providers, and positive dog training. There were several pet adoption groups at the fair and a pet photographer. The American Kennel Club also participated by offering the Canine Good Citizen test. This test recognizes and rewards dogs that are well mannered. Heidi Wise, president of Coddled Creatures, works with her two Pomeranians, Sugar and Princess, in print ads, TV, and film. This requires a sophisticated understanding of dog behavior and positive training techniques. Sugar and Princess have appeared on NBC’s sitcom “30 Rock” and ABC’s “What Would You Do?” They have done work for companies such as Macy’s, United Colors of Benetton, Vogue, and Mighty Dog, and appeared in commercials for the national company Telebrands that made the “As Seen on TV” logo a household name. Both dogs have auditioned for Hollywood films.
