Although there has not been an increase in motor vehicle accidents in the area, the police department is concerned with safety due to motorists who operate their vehicles on the wrong side of the double yellow line. They do this in order to bypass standing traffic to quickly get to the left turn lane at Crescent Avenue before the traffic signal cycles or to enter the 7-11 parking lot. increased risk of a serious head-on collision. Pedestrians, mostly school children, are also at risk of being struck.” A recent traffic survey indicates that an average of 18 vehicles per hour violate the no passing law, despite a large variable message sign warning motorists not to cross the double yellow line. The Waldwick Police Department has stepped up enforcement near this intersection and will be issuing
motor vehicle summonses to any motorist who crosses over the double yellow line. Officers will also be stepping up their efforts on motor vehicle violations in other areas of town during the summer months. Police report that more serious crashes occur during the summer months than any other time during the year. Officials say that safe, defensive, and buckled driving will help to make summer more enjoyable for everyone.
