Allendale June 1, 2011 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 9 Schools get grants by John Koster The Allendale Foundation for Educational Excellence has given the Allendale K-8 school system grants totaling well over $80,000 for the spring grant cycle. The multiple grants will pay for equipment and programs for the students at no cost to the taxpayers. Grants are funded through voluntary donations and are coordinated and distributed by the foundation. The largest single grant is $17,671 for the Brookside School’s iPad Learning Lab for fourth graders. Grants to the Hillside School included $930 for a Roving Press papermaking program for the kindergarten, $1,518 for a non-fiction guided reading workshop for kindergarten through third grade, $696 for a High Touch High Tech weather program for the first grade, $800 for a High Touch High Tech sounds program for the second grade, $1,025 for Dinosaurs Rock for the second grade, $3,600 for a movement and dance program by The King Center for second and third grade, $599 for books on the solar system and $677 for biographical books for the third grade, three grants of $6,485 each for SMARTboards for the third grade classes and second and third grade basic skills, and $6,371 for maintenance and repair of the ecology center. The Brookside School received $975 for a school-wide program for Science Sport Spectacular, the $17,671 for the iPad Learning Lab, $1,997 for the Fairy Tale Book Club for the sixth grade, $7,680 for digital photography and multimedia, $2,152 for the Social Issues Book Club, $5,522 for Literature Circles - Language Arts, and two grants of $6,485 for SMARTboards one for the fifth and sixth grade and one for replacement and basic skills instruction. The Allendale Woman’s Club presented a check to the board of directors of Concerned Citizens of Allendale, the non-profit group that operates the historical John Fell House in Allendale. Fashion Show Co-chairs Lynn Novak, Robin Galvin, and Maureen Mamunes were pleased to present the check in the amount of $21, 379, which represents half of the night’s proceeds. CCA President Susanne Lovisolo thanked the Allendale Woman’s Club for its outstanding volunteerism and incredible generosity. This year’s Fashion Show was the most successful in the club’s history, and was the result of the collaborative effort between the two organizations and tremendous support from the community.
