Mary J. Canonico, nee Napolitano, of Mahwah died May 21. She was 95. She was a member of the Mahwah Fire Department Co. #1 Ladies Auxiliary for 50 years. She is survived by her husband Angelo Canonico, her son Michael, and two grandchildren. Arrangements were made by Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home in Ramsey. D’Ercole, nee Bartolloto, of Waldwick died May 20. She was 84. She was a nurse and a parishioner at Church of the Nativity in Midland Park. She is survived by her children Freddy, Donald, Sharon, and Mark, 12 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Fred D’Ercole. He was a New Jersey State Trooper Class of ‘58. He was a YMCA water safety instructor for 20 years, and a general contractor. He was the owner of Nobody’s Inn in Mahwah for 30 years. He is survived by his children Joyce Fusiek of Mahwah, and George J. Fusiek of Paramus, two grandchildren, and his friend Diane Cole. He was predeceased by his wife Frances (nee Yuppa) Fusiek. She is survived by her children William Greene, Rosemary Chiavetta, Charles Greene, and Mary Ellen Caputo, 12 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband William G. Turro of Upper Saddle River, formerly of Maywood, died May 23. He was 88. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He was employed by Sears Roebuck & Co. for 33 years. He was a past member of the Elks Club and Rotary International. He is survived by his wife Geraldine (nee Caporlingua), his children Cheryl Whalen, Sharon Hawlik, and Michele Kenny, and his brother Edward. He was a member of the Rockland Scottish Pipe and Drum Band, the American Legion Post 57 in Waldwick, and the Grace Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Fair Lawn. He is survived by his wife Patricia, his daughters Donna Hoffmann of Prospect Park, Barbara Valente of Kentwood, Michigan, and Kristin Kiekintveld of Grandville, Michigan, and four grandchildren. (continued from page 7) Grupp also wants to take the unused borough-owned property at the intersection of Lake Street and the West Road and develop it into a passive park with a walking path with exercise stations using Green Acres funds The candidate also plans to create a “super board” of individuals from each of the borough’s athletic associations to find ways to improve and share the use of the fields, schedule games, and look for redundancies and eliminate them. He would also work with members of the local government to achieve certification in Sustainable Jersey, a certification program for New Jersey municipalities that want to go green, save money, and take steps to sustain their quality of life over the long term. He said Upper Saddle River has been registered in this program, but not certified. He also said he would work with the department of works to come up with a plan to clean up this area to make it a more appealing place to bring recyclables.
