Enjoy a buffet breakfast with Darren the DARE Lion and support Upper Saddle River’s DARE program. The Youth Guidance Council funds programs and activities for students in grades kindergarten through grade 12 that emphasize a healthy lifestyle free of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco. The DARE program involves students in grades five through eight. Antibullying and self-esteem programs are an important part of the program. Youth Triathlon registration under way The Upper Saddle River Recreation Commission’s Eighth Annual Upper Saddle River Youth Triathlon, scheduled for Saturday, June 11, is open to children ages eight through 14. The event includes swimming, biking, and running. The children will begin their swim at the Saddle River Valley Swim & Tennis Club, bike to Lions Park, and finish with a run at Lions Park. Participants will be divided into two age groups. Triathlon distances will differ for those groups. Contests, food, and prizes will be set up at the finish line in Lions Park. Dettra presents organ concert Consort and organist at The Crossings, Philadelphia’s new music choir, Dettra’s performances are known for their clarity, rhythmic intensity, and musical elegance. His recent and upcoming performances include appearances at Grace Church, San Francisco; the Cadet Chapel, West Point; Princeton University Chapel; Church of the Advent, Boston; and Saint Thomas Church, New York City. His debut recording, “Tongues of Fire,” features French music performed at the Cadet Chapel at West Point. A new piece, “Majestus,” was performed on the organ at Washington National Cathedral. Dettra holds two degrees from Westminster Choir College and has studied jazz piano at the Manhattan School of Music. Novels at Night Book Group to discuss ‘The Imperfectionists’ The Novels at Night Book Group will discuss “The Imperfectionists” by Tom Rachman on June 1. The discussion will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Upper Saddle River Library, 245 Lake Street in Upper Saddle River. The group meets at the library on the first Wednesday of the month. Best-selling authors to appear The Saddle River Branch of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary will host its annual luncheon on June 21 at The Tuxedo Club, 17 West Lake Road in Tuxedo Park, New York. Guest speakers will be best-selling authors Mary Higgins Clark and Carol Higgins Clark. Lunch will begin at 11:30 a.m. with a reception and book signing by the motherdaughter authors.
