Volunteers needed for town event The Upper Saddle River Recreation is seeking volunteers to assist with the Upper Saddle River Day, which is slated for Saturday, Sept. 10. (Rain date: Sept. 11.) The event will take place at Lions Park from 2 to 7 p.m. and will feature family games, face painting, carnival rides, and stage performances. Food wristbands may be purchased in advance at the Upper Saddle River Library or at borough hall for $30 for a family up to six members; or $10 for an individual. There is no charge for seniors (age 62 and over) or for children under six years of age. Tickets will be available the day of the picnic. For more information, visit www.USRToday.org. Scout seeks sports equipment Upper Saddle River Girl Scout Sara Kiani is collecting new and gently used sports equipment to benefit Camp YDP in Paterson. Kiani is teaching children at the camp about fitness and nutrition for her Gold Award project. Camp YDP (Youth Development Program) offers Paterson children who are ages three through 12 a place where they may play and study throughout the school year and during the summer. The camp is in need of supplies to keep the children active and outside. Kiani is seeking donations of: jump ropes, soccer balls, basketballs, footballs, plastic baseball bats, tennis balls, sidewalk chalk, Frisbees, baseballs and softballs, baseball mitts, hula hoops, sports store gift cards, and first aid supplies. Other sporting equipment would be welcome, but it is important to remember that the children do not have large locations in which to play. Zion announces special services To accommodate vacationers, weekenders, and visitors to the area, Zion Lutheran Church of Saddle River has added an additional mid-week vesper service on Wednesdays from 7 to 7:30 p.m. The additional service, which

Concert series to feature The Cameos The Saddle River Summer Concert Series will continue July 28 at 7 p.m., when The Cameos will bring their repertoire of ‘50s music to the Rindlaub Park Band Shell. The shell is located behind the municipal building at 100 East Allendale Road. Club welcomes new members The Saddle River Valley Junior Woman’s Club welcomes new members. The club’s work involves community outreach projects and fundraisers for non-profit organiza-

Juniors collect donations for veterans The Saddle River Valley Junior Woman’s Club is seeking donations of clothing and personal products to benefit veterans’ homes located in Menlo Park, Paramus, and Vineland. The homes are open to men and women who have served in the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines, and Navy. The residents, who live on a fixed living allowance, have their health needs met, but are in need of personal care items and basic clothing. The club is seeking donations of the following items: men’s new (with tags attached) sweatshirts and sweatpants in size large through 3XL, and T-shirts in medium through 3XL; deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, denture care products (no liquids); batteries; sunglasses with dark lenses; and electric razors.
