New Vision 2020 survey will be out this September
The Upper Saddle River Mayor and Council will be conducting an update of its 2005 Vision 2020 survey this fall. The survey will be distributed to all households as an insert in the September Borough Bulletin. Information and copies of the survey will also be available on the borough website, www.usrtoday.org. and at Upper Saddle River Day, which is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 10. Residents are asked to watch for the survey and help the governing body by filling it out, regardless of whether they participated in the original survey. The surveys, one per family, are to be returned to borough hall, 376 West Saddle River Road by Nov. 1. The strategic planning study is being co-chaired by Bill Yeomans, Karen Miller, and Joanne Minichetti. Residents will be asked for their opinions on a variety of topics, including traffic and safety, controlling costs, preservation, and recreation. The results of the survey will be tallied and released by Jan. 1, 2012. “Since the 2005 report, the borough has achieved many of the recommended goals,” Minichetti explained. “We met last year to review what had been implemented and what still needed work. At that time, we put together a recap that is on the borough’s website. We realized that some issues have changed and some new ones have become more pressing due to the economy. We’ve decided to do a follow-up survey at this time in order to have residents continue to determine the future direction of Upper Saddle River. “The original visioning survey resulted from research and input by the Vision 2020 Committee and its four subcommittees. The survey was sent to all households in the borough requesting responses to questions pertaining to the future of Upper Saddle River’s growth and development, quality of life, cost of living, traffic and safety, government, and services. Approximately 19 percent of households responded, resulting in 23 recommendations for the borough, the top five of which were: preserving our semi-rural character, assuring our safety, protecting our environment, stabilizing taxes, keep improving quality of life and maintaining quality of government and services. We are hoping to get as many residents to respond (to the new survey) as possible.” Based on the work of the 2020 Committee and the town wide survey results, a report was prepared outlining future goals for the borough. The original 52-page report is available on the borough website, www. usrtoday.org. For more information regarding Vision 2020, contact Joanne Minichetti at jlminichett@aol.com.
