The council will meet on July 26 and Aug. 23. Sessions are held at borough hall, 333 Warren Avenue, Ho-Ho-Kus, and begin at 8 p.m. Scout painting house numbers on curbs Ryan De Marco of Boy Scout Troop 54 in Ho-Ho-Kus has planned his Eagle Scout service project for this summer. He will be painting house numbers on the curbs in front of borough homes in order to make the homes easier to locate, particularly in an emergency situation. Scouts working toward the rank of Eagle are required to plan and execute a service project that benefits the community. Residents who are interested in having their house number painted on their curb may e-mail hhkcurbs@gmail. com. Residents are urged to respond as soon as possible. De Marco plans to work on this project over the summer. Register for summer reading program Registration for the summer reading program, “One World, Many Stories” is now under way at the WorthPinkham Memorial Library. The program is open to children ages two and older. Parents are encouraged to sign up their children for the annual program. The library is located at 91 Warren Avenue. Call (201) 445-8078 for more information. Mohan to exhibit Artist Sujatha Mohan will exhibit her paintings at the Worth-Pinkham Memorial Library during the month of July. Having lived in India, Singapore, and the United States, Mohan’s paintings reflect these diverse influences. While in India, she studied under the guidance of a renowned Allendale Notebook Book drive donations sought The Northern Highlands National Honor Society is collecting gently-used elementary level reading books to be donated to Kipp Star Elementary School in Washington Heights, Manhattan. Kipp Star Elementary is opening its doors to its first class of kindergarteners in August. The school will house students in kindergarten through grade four. Due to insufficient funding, the library has very few books. Collection boxes are located at 10 Gloria Drive in Allendale; the Ho-Ho-Kus Public Library, 91 Warren Avenue, Ho-Ho-Kus; and the Glen Rock Public Library, 315 Rock Road, Glen Rock. This book collection will be ongoing throughout the summer and books will be transported to the school every two weeks. Board of education to meet The Allendale Board of Education will meet on Tuesday, July 19 at 8 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Brookside School Library, 100 Brookside Avenue. Cub Scout registration under way Registration for Allendale Cub Scouts for 2011-12 has begun. Boys in grades one through five are invited to join. Scout programs foster leadership, confidence, and character as participants embark on a variety of adventures. The Contemporary Club of Ho-Ho-Kus recently selected Travis Downs as this year’s winner of the club’s $2,000 scholarship. The merit scholarship is awarded to a graduating high school senior and resident of Ho-Ho-Kus based on academic achievement, extra-curricular participation, meaningful community service and a personal interview. Travis is a senior at Bergen County Academies: Academy for Advancement of Science & Technology. Scholarship winner Indian artist. The colors, sounds and sights, and folk art in India have been a source of inspiration for her. She moved to Singapore in early 2001, where the tropical colors and the study of Chinese brush painting inspired her to explore and express in other media. Mohan is currently a member of the Ridgewood Art Institute. While she prefers using oils, she enjoys painting on silk and batik, and has dabbled in printmaking and mixed media. She has exhibited her oils, silk paintings, and Chinese brush paintings in Singapore. The library is located at 91 Warren Avenue.
