Page 12 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • July 20, 2011 Allendale Mobi-mats to cover all Crestwood Lake accesses by John Koster An arrangement between the borough council and the manufacturer will soon render Allendale’s Crestwood Lake 100 percent barrier-free as an extended grant and the manufacturer’s good will enable local officials provide mobi-mats in the remaining 25 percent of the lake approaches that need coverage. “The manufacturer is even donat- ing a handicapped-access wheelchair so that handicapped people can enter the water in comfort and safety,” said Councilwoman Elizabeth White. Crestwood Lake, once privately owned and now owned and operated by the borough, underwent a resurgence after a controversial move to allow nonresidents to purchase summer passes. The recreational facility is now operating with a positive cash flow, a marked change from the negative cash flow of a number of previous years. The council, however, postponed action on turning 22 commuter parking spaces into two-hour metered spaces at last week’s meeting. Action is expected at a future meeting, but for now, the parking patterns near the railroad station will remain as they are. Council members had hoped to add some shopper parking for the benefit of local merchants, since a large number of the commuter spaces tend to remain vacant all day long. No action took place last week pending further study. Piano teacher Shin Hye Lee and some of her accomplished students used music to bridge the generation gap by performing a concert at The Atrium at The Allendale Community for Mature Living. During the recent performance, residents were treated to various popular, jazz and classical selections. The concert is one of many entertaining and culturally enriching events hosted by The Allendale Community for Mature Living. Many of these programs are free and open to the public.
