Parking revision back on council’s agenda
by John Koster The Allendale Borough Council is anticipating action to add some extra shopper parking spaces to the borough’s inventory at council meetings later this month. “We are transferring the 22 parking spots which are currently commuter parking spots only, to twohour shopper’s parking,” said Councilwoman Elizabeth White. “These 22 spots along with 10 additional spots are being moved to the 18 spots currently occupied by the metered parking spots. The metered parking spots will be moved down to accommodate these 32 new spots which will be along the northbound side of the station.” A group composed of police officers, council members, and public works representatives examined the number of parking spaces after Mayor Vince Barra, on a walk, noticed that many all-day parking spots for commuters were not being used, while shoppers and merchants often complain that not enough parking is available for local merchants. The new configuration is seen as a way to provide more spaces for shoppers, without an undue imposition on commuters, since most of the spaces are not used in any case. The changes, if approved on introduction this week,
will probably be approved this summer and go effect after Labor Day, because it would take some time for the Allendale Department of Public Works to move the existing meters.
The Allendale Chamber of Commerce has organized an effort to collect and ship much-needed toiletries, books, and other items to American soldiers serving in Afghanistan. Noting that Allendale resident Jay Blondin is stationed in Iraq for one year, Chamber President Nickie Lisella said, “His family asked if we would collect items to send overseas. We are happy to help a soldier – especially one who is an Allendale resident. I’ve known Jay since he was in Stacy Stoler from Darla’s Porch, Glenda Barry (Stoler’s mom), Nicolette Lisella of Terrie kindergarten. He went to O’Connor Realtors, and Adrienne Tenbekjian from Jumbeliah. school with my daughter items or money for shipping (the fee is $12.95 per box) Rebecca.” Stacy Stoler of Darla’s Porch noted that her husband may do so at Terrie O’Connor Realtors, 75 West AllenKen also attended school in Allendale with the Blondin dale Avenue, in Allendale.
