Club welcomes new members The Saddle River Valley Junior Woman’s Club welcomes new members. The club’s work involves community outreach projects and fundraisers for non-profit organizations on the local, regional, and state levels. The club also hosts socials for members and their husbands and offers activities for mothers and their children. Recently, members Leslie Lahoud, Sierra Kiely, Chastity Glazer, Luz Terranova, and Josephine Amitsis and their children visited the Potomac Home in Ramsey. The group engaged in arts and crafts projects and shared a snack with the residents. The afternoon’s activities ended with story telling. Discourses on Vedanta offered Swami Parthasarathy will offer a weekly lecture on the ancient Indian philosophy of Vedanta on Saturdays and Sundays at 4 Toboggan Ridge Road in Saddle River. Sessions will be held at 6:30 p.m. The ancient philosophy of Vedanta contains the eternal principles of living. Lectures will offer a practical application of Vedanta in everyday life. Junior Woman’s Club collects donations for veterans The Saddle River Valley Junior Woman’s Club is seeking donations of clothing and personal products to benefit veterans’ homes located in Menlo Park, Paramus, and Vineland. The homes are open to men and women who have served in the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines, and Navy. The residents, who live on a fixed living
allowance, have their health needs met, but are in need of personal care items and basic clothing. The club is seeking donations of the following items: men’s new (with tags attached) sweatshirts and sweatpants in size large through 3XL, and T-shirts in medium through 3XL; deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, denture care products (no liquids); batteries; sunglasses with dark lenses; and electric razors. Jazz guitarist and banjoist Bucky Pizzarelli will perform at 7 p.m. at the Rindlaub Park Band Shell located behind the municipal building at 100 East Allendale Road. On July 28, The Cameos will bring their repertoire of ‘50s music to the park. Rock ‘n Roll concert set The Fabulous Greaseband®, a seven member “Best of the ‘50s, ‘60s, ‘70s, ‘80s, and ‘90s Rock ‘n’ Roll Party Band,” will perform a summer concert on the lawn at the Upper Saddle River Library on Friday, July 15 at 7:30 p.m. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Upper Saddle River Library and the Upper Saddle River Recreation Department. Open to Upper Saddle River residents of all ages, the event will be held rain or shine. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and picnic baskets. Parking is available at Lions Park. Tennis permits available Tennis permits for the use of the Upper Saddle River tennis courts, located on West Saddle River Road in front of Reynolds School, are available at borough hall, 376 West Saddle River Road. Garden Club awards scholarship
The Saddle River Garden Club awarded its annual scholarship to Elizabeth Newton of Saddle Brook, a recent graduate of Paramus Catholic High School. The award was presented at the club’s annual picnic. This fall, Newton will attend Rutgers University, where she will study environmental science. Newton is pictured holding her scholarship check. New Cub Scouts welcome Registration for Upper Saddle River Cub Scouts is under way for the 2011-12 school year. All boys entering grades one through
five are encouraged to join. Activities are open to the Cubs and their families. Registration forms are available at the Upper Saddle River Library at 245 Lake Street or at www.usrscouts.com. Kindergarten registration encouraged Residents with kindergarten age children who were unable to register by the Feb. 1 deadline are encouraged to call Reynolds School at (201) 961-6300 to make an appointment as soon as possible. To register, a parent will need a completed enrollment packet, and must provide an original birth certificate, a physical exam form completed by the child’s physician, and four proofs of residency. Parents should be prepared to make a screening appointment for the child.
