Faculty members made the selections. The high school students who were honored are Daniel Tyson for athletics, Stephen Palaia for mathematics, and Michael Marrero for vocal performance. The middle school students who received recognition are sixth grader Julianna Terraciano, seventh grader Devraj Roy, and eighth grader John Fulco. Super Bowl Sunday Subs fundraiser set Take Away Gourmet owners Chuck and Laura Adams have joined forces to create Super Bowl Sunday Subs with Kisses 4 Kelly. Kisses 4 Kelly is an organization created to help offset rising medical costs for a 16-year-old Waldwick girl facing serious medical challenges. Two subs will be available: turkey and American cheese, lettuce and tomato (optional), and mayo packet; or salami, ham, pepperoni, provolone, lettuce and tomato (optional), and Italian dressing packet. Both sandwiches are served on 12-inch, freshly baked bread. Orders must be placed by Wednesday, Feb. 2 by 3 p.m. Pickup will be at the Waldwick Ambulance Building, 20 Whites Lane, Waldwick on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 6, between noon and 2 p.m. One hundred percent of the profits will be donated to Kisses 4 Kelly. All proceeds will benefit the alcohol- and drug-free 2011 Waldwick Graduation Ball. All are welcome to attend and experience real homemade tomato/meat sauce, quality durum pasta cooked on the spot al dente, and insalata with Sicilian olive oil served in the traditional Italian family-style. A special performance by musical guest Greg Caldarone is included. Preschool holds Open House The Little School of Waldwick at 40 Franklin Turnpike Casey’s paintings now on exhibit Pets and flowers have a special place in the heart of Maureen Casey (pictured), whose exhibit of oil paintings, “Whiskers and Roses,” will be on display at the Waldwick Library now through Monday, Feb. 28. The exhibit features pet portraits of cats and dogs interspersed with a variety of floral still lifes. A King Charles Spaniel named Brinkley, an unusual white boxer, and two silver tabbies comprise the captivating collection of pet portraits. The floral paintings include mountain laurel, hydrangeas, and the pale pink roses featured in “Lorraine’s Dresser,” the artist’s personal favorite. Casey has been interested in art since childhood and studied graphic arts at the School of Visual Arts, a prowill hold an Open House on Feb. 5 and 6 and March 5 and 6 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The school offers programs for children ages two through six. Kindergarten/new student registration set Registration for the September 2011 kindergarten classes in Waldwick will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011 at 9 a.m. at Julia A. Traphagen School, and at 1:30 p.m. at Crescent School. Parents or guardians must bring prietary art school in Manhattan. Five years ago, she discovered a new world of color and light when she decided to study oil painting at the Ridgewood Art Institute. The Waldwick resident is currently a student of John Phillip Osborne, a master landscape painter; Lorraine Minneto, who specializes in floral still lifes; and Renate Wehmeyer, a pet portrait artist. Casey has been commissioned to paint portraits for many pet owners and donates a portion of her sales to benefit homeless animals. The Waldwick Library is located at 19 East Prospect Street in Waldwick. Hours are Monday through Thursday from 10 to 9 and Friday and Saturday from 10 to 5. Acceptable proofs of residency include utility bills with name and address and a lease, deed, or tax bill for the residence. To be eligible for next fall’s class, children must be five years old on or before Oct. 1, 2011, have a complete physical examination after Sept. 1, 2010, and have complete immunization against diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, poliomyelitis, rubella, rubeola, mumps, hepatitis B, and chickenpox. Parents or guardians must furnish a written record of the month, day, and year of all immunizations. Registration forms are available on the district’s website, www.waldwick.k12.nj.us, under each school’s website or may be picked up at Crescent and Traphagen schools during school hours. Parents of private school kindergarten students who are planning to attend a Waldwick public school for first grade in September 2011 are also asked to register their children by Jan. 26. These students must meet the same immunization requirements as kindergarteners.
