Church in Ho-Ho-Kus. She is survived by her children Patricia Leddy of Rumson, Barbara Barry of Haymarket, Virginia, Suzanne Pelzer of Ridgewood, Frederick Franzel Jr. of Washington, Michigan, and Jacqueline Fedor of Monroe, Connecticut, 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and her sister Doris Sherman of Speculator, New York. She was predeceased by her husband Frederick J., her sister Muriel Pizzuti, and her brother Stanley. Arrangements were made by Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff. Thomas Horan of Saddle River, formerly of Forked River and Hasbrouck Heights, died Jan. 4. He was 89. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. Before retiring, he had been a salesman for North Jersey Equipment Co. and W. A. Kraft & Co. in Teterboro. After his retirement, he taught Coast Guard boating safety and engine mechanics courses for many years. He became a member of the Flotilla 7-12 Coast Guard Fifth District, NR Auxiliary Power Search and Rescue Squadron earning the rank of commodore in 1995. He was a member of the Fish Hawks. He had been a Cub Scout leader, Little League coach, and a member of the volunteer fire department and rescue squad in Hasbrouck Heights. He is survived by his children Sandra Healey of Woodcliff Lake, Rhonda Nelson of Hackensack, Doug Horan and Lindy Ott, both of Lexington, Virginia, eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and his sister Jean Bonnell of Lancaster, Virginia. He was predeceased by his wife Peggy Horan, and his brother George Horan. Arrangements were made by Robert Spearing Funeral Home, Inc., in Park Ridge. Memorial donations may be made to the Hasbrouck Heights Volunteer Fire Department or a charity of choice. Luigi “Lou” Lupinacci of Upper Saddle River died Jan. 4. He was 71. He was a civil engineer for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey for 37 years. After retiring, he was a substitute teacher at Northern Highlands and Ramsey high schools. He was a soccer coach in the local community for over 20 years. He is survived by his wife Doretta (nee Ferrante), his children Frank, Anthony, JennaMarie, and L.J., and his brothers Donato and Fernando. He was predeceased by his sisterAurelia. She had been Beatrice Betty Franzel a comptroller with Edelson Technology Partners. She was a member of The Shamrock’s of Saint Patrick’s Church, The Garden Club of Wiscasset, and the Lincoln County Historical Association. She is survived by her husband John Maurizi, her children Louis Maurizi of Nyack, New York, Laura Paray of Ho-Ho-Kus, Monica Littler of Essex, Connecticut, Joan Maurizi of Olympia, Washington, and Susan Maurizi of Wayne, five grandchildren, and her siblings Ingrid Janeiro, Rolf Nelson, and Geraldine Nelson, and her step mother Geri Nelson. Box 598 Newcastle, ME 04553. Richard Charles McDonnell, Esquire of Upper Saddle River died Jan. 5. He was 73. He was a U.S. Army Reserve veteran. He received his bachelor’s degree from Saint Peter’s College, his MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University, and his J.D. from Seton Hall University. He began his career as a marketing representative at IBM, and then co-founded the firm McDonnell and Whitaker in Ramsey, where he practiced law until 2009. He was admitted to the New Jersey Bar in 1969, the New York Bar in 1990, and the U.S. Supreme Court in 1983. He was certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a civil law attorney and by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a matrimonial law attorney. He served as the acting municipal prosecutor for the Borough of Saddle River, the Borough of Allendale, and the Township of Mahwah. He was a member of the Bergen County Bar Association, served as trustee, secretary, treasurer, and president from 2008-2009. He served as councilman for the Borough of Upper Saddle River from 1980-1982, counsel to the Upper Saddle River Planning Board from 1984-2001, and counsel for the Upper Saddle River Board of Education from 1974-1980. He served on the New Jersey State Ethics Association. He was the recipient of the Governor’s Citation for Services in Volunteers in Parole Program and was vice chair of the District II-A Ethics Committee. He was a member of the adjunct faculty at Bergen Community College from 1971-1985. He was a volunteer Little League baseball coach and football coach in Upper Saddle River. He is survived by his wife Jane, his children Susan Kelley of Jefferson, Massachusetts, Michael McDonnell of Vienna, Virginia, Diane Pickles of Bradford, Massachusetts, and Nancie Ruder of Bethesda, Maryland, 14 grandchildren, one great-grandson, and his brother Thomas of Fort Lauderdale. John Joseph Powers III of Waldwick died Jan. 9 He was 86. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He had been a purchasing manager at ITT in Paramus for many years. He was a parishioner of Saint Elizabeth’s RC Church in Wyckoff, where he was a member of its choir. He was a graduate of Saint John’s University. He is survived by his children Mary Keenan of Midland Park, Joan Powers of Brooklyn, James Powers of Hopewell, and Joseph Powers of Waldwick, six grandchildren, and his brother Roger Powers of North Carolina. She graduated with a B.A in theater arts in 1959 and a M.A. in speech in 1966 from Emerson College. She taught English and directed musicals at Mamaroneck High School. She was an adjunct professor of speech and communications at Montclair State University and Ramapo College for the last 26 years. She was a member of West Side Presbyterian Church in Ridgewood where she taught Sunday school, was a deacon, and directed many of the church’s productions. She was a member of the Hillside Players, PEO Chapter J, a Professional Educational Organization, and the Ridgewood College Club. She is survived by her husband Lincoln John Stulik, her daughter Jessica Stulik Molnar, son-in-law Ludwig Molnar, and her granddaughter Katelyn Molnar. Arrangements were made by C.C. He was survived by his wife Anne (nee Ciccarelli) von Marosits of Glen Rock, his son Mark Marosits of Newport, Rhode Island, and his grandson Michael Marosits.
