Chamber to vote on slate of officers The Ho-Ho-Kus Chamber of Commerce is proposing a new slate of officers for 2011 to be voted upon at the organization’s next meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 19. The meeting will take place in the ambulance meeting room at borough hall at 6 p.m. Entrance is in the back by the police department, and the room is located on the second floor. The slate includes Andrew Ripps of HoHoKus Famous Bagels for president; Steve Sager of Stonegate Communications for vice president; and Michael Zeale of Bank of America for treasurer. Two new positions, titled advisory members, are being added. Chip Gildea and Chuck Russo are being nominated to fill these positions. Their advice and guidance will play key roles in assisting the board. Goodell to address Garden Club Douglas Goodell, nature photographer, exhibitor, and book publisher will address the Ho-Ho-Kus Garden Club on Monday, Jan. 24 at 7:30 p.m. Goodell, who is the recipient of several awards, will present “Beautiful Birds and Wildlife Photo Art.” The meeting will be held in the second floor ambulance room at borough hall. Register for baseball and softball Online registration is underway for the 2011 Ho-HoKus/Saddle River baseball and softball season. Residents of Ho-Ho-Kus and Saddle River may enroll their children in grades kindergarten through nine by accessing the HHK/SR Baseball and Softball Association website at
http://www.hhksrbsa.com/home.html. The cost for registration is $90 for children in kindergarten and first grade, and $115 for children in grades two through nine. Registration ends Feb. 2. Knights schedule Blood Drive The Saint Luke’s Knights of Columbus will hold a Blood Drive on Sunday, Jan. 30. The Mobile Blood Unit of Bergen County Blood Services will be at Saint Luke’s Church, 340 North Franklin Turnpike in Ho-Ho-Kus, from 8:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Members of the community are encouraged to participate. During the winter, Bergen County Blood Services has a difficult time getting donors, and the supply of blood gets extremely low. For more information, contact John Grill at (201) 444-0660. Dog fitness & nutrition explored The Worth-Pinkham Memorial Library at 91 Warren Avenue, Ho-Ho-Kus will host a dog fitness and nutrition workshop on Jan. 25 from 7 to 9 p.m. This workshop will be hosted by Pet’s Best Friend NJ and led by Chris Rago. Learn the importance of fitness and exercise, proper dog walking techniques, feeding dos and don’ts, and leadership essentials. Those who wish to attend are asked to call (201) 445-8078. Seniors plan events The Ho-Ho-Kus Seniors meet the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month in the Hermitage Education Building, 334 North Franklin Turnpike in Ho-Ho-Kus. A special presentation on wills and estates will be given by Bergen County Surrogate Michael Dressler at the Jan. 25 meeting. Kindergarten registration set The Ho-Ho-Kus Public School on Lloyd Road, Ho-HoKus will hold kindergarten registration on Wednesday, Jan. 26 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the school library. The program is open to youngsters who will be five years old on or before Oct. 1, 2011. At registration, parents will need to produce proof of child’s birth date in the form of a birth certificate, and two proofs of residency (a copy of a deed or fully executed

Preschool program announces openings The Ho-Ho-Kus Public School has six general education student openings in the integrated preschool program that will begin in September 2011. The integrated preschool program incorporates the education of children with special education needs with children of the general education population. Students in the program range in age from three through five. The program is held in Ho-Ho-Kus Public School on Lloyd Road, HoHo-Kus, from 8:45 to 11:15 a.m., Monday through Friday, in accordance with the school calendar. To be eligible, general education students must be at least three years of age on or before Oct. 1, 2011. Applications for general education preschoolers are due by Jan. 14 and may be picked up in the main office of the school or downloaded from the Ho-Ho-Kus Public School website at www.hohokus.org. Students will be screened for admission to the program during January and early February. The six openings will be filled by a lottery on Feb. 17. Tuition for 2011-12 is $3,000. VFW welcomes new members The Ho-Ho-Kus VFW, which serves Ho-Ho-Kus and Ridgewood, welcomes new members. The group meets on the second Wednesday of every month at 7:30 p.m. at the Post Home, 620 Cliff Street, Ho-Ho-Kus. For additional information, call (201) 445-1121. Box Tops for Education drive underway The Home and School Association is collecting Box Tops for Education Labels. The community is asked to save the labels on purchases and bring them to the collection box located in borough hall. Each label is worth 10 cents to the school. Sewing group meets at library A hand stitching group meets at the Worth-Pinkham Memorial Library, 91 Warren Avenue, in Ho-Ho-Kus the first and third Monday of each month from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Those who enjoy needlepoint or any kind of hand stitching are welcome.
