‘Basically Baroque’ to be presented The All Seasons Chamber Players will return to the Upper Saddle River Library, 245 Lake Street, on Sunday, Jan. 30 at 2 p.m. The ensemble will present its “Basically Baroque” program with Flemish harpsichord, flute, and strings. This program is free and open to the public. Board of education to meet The Upper Saddle River Board of Education will meet on Monday, Jan. 24 at 8 p.m. The meeting will be held in the media center at the Cavallini Middle School, 392 West Saddle River Road. Independent film screening set The Upper Saddle River Library will present a screening of “1981” on Jan. 26 at 7:30 p.m. This newly-released film is directed by Ricardo Trogi. A discussion and refreshments will follow. The library is located at 245 Lake Street. Group to discuss Heneven novel Novels at Night will meet on Feb. 2 to discuss “Blame” by Michelle Heneven. Register for baseball and softball Online registration is underway for the 2011 Ho-HoKus/Saddle River baseball and softball season. Residents of Ho-Ho-Kus and Saddle River may enroll their children in grades kindergarten through nine by accessing the HHK/SR Baseball and Softball Association website at http://www.hhksrbsa.com/home.html. The cost for registration is $90 for children in kindergarten and first grade, and $115 for children in grades two through nine. Registra-

Republicans welcome new members The Upper Saddle River Republican Club will meet on Tuesday, Jan. 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the adult solarium at the Upper Saddle River Library, 245 Lake Street, to discuss reorganization, new leadership, and goals. Members and non-members, especially those willing to support a revitalized, dynamic club, are invited to be part of the planning process. Refreshments will be served. ‘Healthy Cooking’ comes to library Learn to make healthy foods using seasonal ingredients that are low in fat and full of flavor at Laurilee’s Healthy Cooking. Club welcomes new members, hosts events The Saddle River Valley Newcomers Club welcomes all residents from Saddle River and Upper Saddle River, regardless of the length of their residency. For additional information, contact Nancy at (201) 818-0691 or visit srvnc.org Kindergarten orientation set The Upper Saddle River School District will host a kindergarten orientation for parents of kindergarten age children on Wednesday, Jan. 19 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The session will be held in the Travers Multipurpose Room at Reynolds School located at 391 West Saddle River Road, Upper Saddle River. Registration procedures, a typical day in kindergarten, and curriculum will be discussed. Children who will be five years old on or before Oct. 1, 2011 are eligible for kindergarten in September. Free health consultations offered The Valley Hospital Community Health Department in conjunction with the Saddle River Board of Health will continue to conduct free adult health consultations for Saddle River residents on the first Wednesday of each month from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at 10 Wolf Run, Saddle River. The sessions consist of blood pressure, pulse, and weight monitoring. Information including such health concerns as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, and a review of medications will also be discussed. All services are provided by a registered nurse. Library sponsors ESL program As a member of the Literacy Volunteers of Pascack Valley, the Upper Saddle River Library offers an ongoing ESL (English as a Second Language) Program. These free sessions provide instruction for area adults. Local residents, who are specially trained tutors, teach foreign-born adults on a one-to-one basis to speak, read, and write English. All groups meet at the library at prearranged times. Applications and information can be obtained at the library circulation desk. Anyone who wishes to volunteer as a tutor can contact Rosemarie Manganaro, ESL manager. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the USR Library. Marine Corps League meets Saddle River Marine Corps League meets at 7:30 p.m. the second and fourth Wednesday every month at the firehouse located at West Saddle River Road and Allendale Avenue.
