Crossley is council president; Rorty and Shea sworn in
by Jennifer Crusco The Ho-Ho-Kus Council reorganized for 2011 on New Year’s Day. The session included the swearing in of firsttime Councilmen Philip Rorty and Kevin Shea, and the governing body’s selection of Kevin Crossley as the next council president. Crossley, who joined the council in 2002, is an insurance specialist and is past president of the Tri-County Independent Insurance Agents Association of Nassau, Queens, and Kings counties. He has served on the Safeco Insurance Advisory Council and the Nominating Committee for the board of directors of AAA New York, Inc., and has chaired fundraisers for the Girl Scouts of Nassau County. During his tenure on the council, Crossley has served as finance chairman, insurance liaison for the borough, commissioner of the ambulance corps, and deputy police commissioner. He spent one previous term as council president. He has served as deputy commissioner of the Ho-Ho-Kus Volunteer Fire Department and president of the Ho-HoKus/Saddle River Athletic Association. He recently served on the Solid Waste Contract Committee and has participated in the PBA contract negotiations. Rorty is a vice president with Liberty International Underwriters. He attended the Ho-Ho-Kus Public School and later graduated from Ridgewood High School and from Nicols College, where he received a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He has served as a member of the Ho-Ho-Kus Planning Board, president of the Ho-HoKus Volunteer Fire Department, and chairman of the HoHo-Kus Republican County Committee. He has resided in the borough for all but seven years of his life. He has coached soccer and baseball, played in the local softball league, and served as an Assistant Cub Master. He and his wife, Nancy, have two children, James and Emily. Shea attended Upper Saddle River’s Cavallini School and graduated from Northern Highlands Regional High School in Allendale. He double majored in English and
economics at Fairfield University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree. He has spent his entire career in trading and sales at Goldman Sachs. Shea and his wife, Dawn, have resided in town for six years. They previously lived in London, England with their three daughters, who currently attend the local public school. Shea has been a member of the Ho-Ho-Kus Zoning Board of Adjustment. He is a member of the board of the Dolan School of Business, and is active at Saint Gabriel’s Church. Rorty and Shea succeed Council Members Lee Flemming and Gordon Hamm. Flemming was edged out in the 2010 contested Republican primary and tendered his resignation before his term ended on Dec. 31. Hamm decided not to seek a new term.
