Knights schedule Blood Drive The Saint Luke’s Knights of Columbus will hold a Blood Drive on Sunday, Jan. 30. The Mobile Blood Unit of Bergen County Blood Services will be at Saint Luke’s Church, 340 North Franklin Turnpike in Ho-Ho-Kus, from 8:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Members of the community are encouraged to participate. During the winter, Bergen County Blood Services has a difficult time getting donors, and the supply of blood gets extremely low. For more information, contact John Grill at (201) 444-0660. Free Rabies Clinic offered The Ho-Ho-Kus Board of Health’s annual free Rabies Clinic for cats and dogs will be held Wednesday, Jan. 12 at the Ho-Ho-Kus Ambulance Corps Building, 555 Sycamore Avenue, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Proof of previous rabies vaccines will be required to obtain a three-year certification. In order to obtain a pet license, the animal’s rabies vaccination must be valid at least to Nov. 1, 2011. If the pet’s vaccination was updated since the owner purchased a 2010 license, proof must be submitted with the renewal payment. Licenses are now available at borough hall from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, or by mail with a self-addressed, stamped envelope. Fees are $15 for each altered animal and $18 for each unaltered animal. After Feb. 28, a $10 late fee will be charged. VFW welcomes new members The Ho-Ho-Kus VFW, which serves Ho-Ho-Kus and Ridgewood, welcomes new members. The group meets on the second Wednesday of every month at 7:30 p.m. at the Post Home, 620 Cliff Street, Ho-Ho-Kus. For additional information, call (201) 445-1121. Seniors plan events The Ho-Ho-Kus Seniors meet the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month in the Hermitage Education Building, 334 North Franklin Turnpike in Ho-Ho-Kus. The next general meeting will be Jan. 11. A special presentation on wills and estates will be given by Bergen County Surrogate Michael Dressler at the Jan. 25 meeting. Kindergarten registration set The Ho-Ho-Kus Public School on Lloyd Road, Ho-HoKus will hold kindergarten registration on Wednesday, Jan. 26 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the school library. The program is open to youngsters who will be five years old on or before Oct. 1, 2011. At registration, parents will need to produce proof of child’s birth date in the form of a birth certificate, and two proofs of residency (a copy of a deed or fully executed lease, and a copy of a utility bill). The Ho-Ho-Kus Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary recently made a $4,000 donation to Go 4 the Goal in honor of Ho-Ho-Kus resident Blake Buffa and her family. Go 4 the Goal is a charitable organization committed to helping children affected with cancer achieve their goals. The Ho-Ho-Kus Ladies Auxiliary has been committed to supporting the needs of the borough fire department and the community for the last 10 years. Preschool program announces openings The Ho-Ho-Kus Public School has six general education student openings in the integrated preschool program that will begin in September 2011. The integrated preschool program incorporates the education of children with special education needs with children of the general education population. Students in the program range in age from three through five. The program is held in Ho-Ho-Kus Public School on Lloyd Road, HoHo-Kus, from 8:45 to 11:15 a.m., Monday through Friday, in accordance with the school calendar. To be eligible, general education students must be at least three years of age on or before Oct. 1, 2011. Applications for general education preschoolers are due by Jan. 14 and may be picked up in the main office of the school or downloaded from the Ho-Ho-Kus Public School website at www.hohokus.org. Students will be screened for admission to the program during January and early February. The six openings will be filled by a lottery on Feb. 17. Tuition for 2011-12 is $3,000. VFW seeks memorabilia Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 192 in Ho-Ho-Kus is seeking photos, newspaper clippings, post cards, maps, aerial photos, and similar items featuring Ho-Ho-Kus and the immediate area, including the Hopper-Zabriskie Cemetery on First Street in Ho-Ho-Kus, prior to 1966. These
items will be used for the VFW Post’s history project. All materials will be returned after scanning and copying. Contact Stanley Kober at (201) 445-1121. Box Tops for Education drive underway The Home and School Association is collecting Box Tops for Education Labels. The community is asked to save the labels on purchases and bring them to the collection box located in borough hall. Each label is worth 10 cents to the school. Reminder of hours at borough hall Hours of operation at Ho-Ho-Kus Borough Hall are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Due to budgetary restrictions, borough hall employees are not permitted to work overtime without special permission. Ho-Ho-Kus officials ask residents and others who conduct business at borough hall to leave enough time for staff members to carry out their requests during regular hours of operation. The police department remains open to the public 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The department of public works is open from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. weekdays.
