February 23, 2011 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 19 Allendale Notebook Fashion Show tickets now on sale The Allendale Woman’s Club 2011 Fashion Show, “Making Fashion History” will take place Wednesday, April 6 at Seasons in Washington Township. The evening will feature a lavish cocktail reception with open bar, gourmet dinner, an auction, gift basket prizes, and fashions presented by Leapin’ Lizards, a Lilly Pulitzer signature store in Ridgewood. This event is a fundraiser for the restoration and preservation of the John Fell House, a local landmark built in the 1700s by Founding Father and Revolutionary War hero John Fell. The house was narrowly saved from demolition by The Concerned Citizens of Allendale, a grassroots organization that raised funds to purchase the building and use it as an educational and cultural resource center. Community members may support this cause by becoming corporate or individual sponsors, placing messages of support in the program, or by donating goods and services to the basket prize giveaway. Current and topical books, tapes, and videos for adults and children may be purchased at bargain prices in the lobby of the Lee Memorial Library at 500 West Crescent Avenue in Allendale. On display are many children’s books, paperbacks, fiction, non-fiction, and current best-sellers. The sale is ongoing and the shelves are restocked daily. Books are priced from 25 cents to $1. The sale is sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Proceeds from the sale go directly to the library for the purchase of new materials. Fyke hosts program; has new meeting venue On Feb. 25, Fyke Nature Association will host a virtual birding tour with Judy Cinquina and poet Mary Oliver. The program will be part of the 8 p.m. meeting, which will be held at the Allendale Municipal Building’s upstairs council chambers. Oliver’s observations are accurate and lyrical, allowing even veteran birders to “meet” the European starling and the dovekie for the first time. Please note that Fyke will continue to meet at the Allendale Municipal Building, 500 West Crescent Avenue, Allendale, while the Wyckoff Library is being renovated. Studio tour offered to children The Allendale Woman’s Club invites local children to enjoy a guided tour of MediaMix Studios on Thursday, Feb. 24. This free tour of the production facilities is being offered to children in grades four through eight. Two tours, one at 10 and another at 11:30 a.m., will be available. AFEE plans annual fundraiser The Allendale Foundation for Educational Excellence will host its 16th annual fundraiser on Friday, March 4 at the Ridgewood Woman’s Club. This year’s event, which has a “Denim and Diamonds” theme, will include mystery board prizes, baskets, a cash prize, and auction items. All proceeds directly benefit enrichment programs and innovative technology for Allendale schools. Tickets are $75 per person, and include dinner and beverages. AFEE Super Fundraiser tickets on sale The Allendale Foundation for Educational Excellence is selling tickets for its annual Super Fundraiser. Participants could win up to $25,000 in cash prizes. Only 500 tickets will be sold. First prize is 80 percent of winning share; second prize, 16 percent of winning share; and third prize, four percent of winning share. Rotary seeks donations for Trivia Night The Allendale Saddle River Rotary Club is seeking prize donations for its April 2 Trivia Night Fundraiser. Donations may include gifts or gift certificates. All merchant donors will be mentioned in the program that will be distributed to attendees. The deadline for donations is March 26. Trivia Night tickets are now on sale for $35, and include dinner and trivia contests. This event will be held at the Mahwah Elks Lodge, 1 Foxwood Lane in Mahwah. A cash bar will be available.
